Jeopardy! will sport a true genius as a guest host. That’s Mayim Bialik, who has started taping for the beloved quiz show.
The Big Bang Theory actress teased Jeopardy! fans with an Instagram post. She said “Had a pretty darn good day at work” and tagged the show.
Bialik, the former star of the 1990s-era Blossom, also portrayed Sheldon’s love interest for nine years on The Big Bang Theory. She played a neuroscientist and basically was a female Sheldon. Funny how art can imitate life. In between acting gigs, Bialik earned her doctorate in neuroscience from UCLA. She’s also a book author.
So in other words, Bialik sports the perfect mix of academics and TV to be asking questions from the Jeopardy! dais.
Jeopardy! is using guest hosts until they can find a permanent replacement for Alex Trebek, who died last November of pancreatic cancer. He was 80.
Jeopardy! Hasn’t Announced Air Dates for Bialik
Katie Couric, the former Today Show host and CBS Evening News anchor, currently is doing a stint on Jeopardy! It’ll end Friday. Next up is Dr. Mehmet Oz, who begins next Monday. Bialik, obviously, is taping her shows for Jeopardy! But air dates have yet to be announced.
Back in January, Bialik told the Today show that she’d prepare for Jeopardy! by first buying a “nice blazer.” From her Instagram photo, we can see she’s found at least one nice quiz-show-appropriate jacket.
Bialik also said: “It is an unbelievable honor to even be mentioned in the same sentence as ‘Jeopardy!’ and I’m especially honored to be able to represent women who love game shows and facts and all things geek — especially when they combine with something as entertaining as Jeopardy!”
“I essentially plan to be myself and hope that people like that!” she said. “I’ve spent a lot of time in the last several years of my career making a name for myself as a thinker and a communicator of a lot of intellectual and personal tidbits about myself and the world around me through my YouTube channel, and now, my mental health podcast, ‘Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown.’ I see this kind of guest hosting gig as an extension of all of the things about me that I get to bring to this immense responsibility. Plus, I get to do it in a blazer.”
Meanwhile, Jeopardy! celebrated St. Patrick’s Day, Wednesday, by sharing a factoid about leprechauns. (This might be a stretch, but it’s a quiz show).
The post on Twitter said:
“The world’s smallest park is a 24-inch circle in Portland, Oregon called Mill Ends Park,” the post states. “It is said to house “the only leprechaun colony west of Ireland.”
