Mike Richards is out. And Mayim Bialik is in as the first of many guest hosts on “Jeopardy!” Bialik will be guest hosting in the wake of Richards’ departure. Interestingly, Sony announced Bialik as one of the initial hosts taking over the show.
Bialik will host various primetime specials and also “Jeopardy!” spinoffs as well. But she will be also lending her hosting duties to the weekday schedule as well. According to CNN, “Jeopardy!” asked Bialik to fill in for three weeks. Insiders believe that Bialik will start taping her episodes this week. But so far, producers have declined to comment on the report.
“Jeopardy!” plans to continue to use guest hosts during the current season while they search for a replacement for Richards. The “Jeopardy!” executive producer held the position for only nine days and taped for only a single day. Bialik will also host an upcoming prime-time tournament as well.
Could this mean that Bialik is the frontrunner for the permanent position? That remains unlikely given Bialik’s busy schedule. But perhaps, Sony is willing to work around Bialik’s TV show “Call Me Kat” to make it a possibility. Previously, many thought Ken Jennings would get the role after he hosted for six weeks last season. Jennings could also remain a favorite as well as LeVar Burton.

But insiders believe that Sony is considering Bialik as a real contender for the role.
“The studio loves Mayim but at the time of the decision for the current season, her schedule for ‘Call me Kat’ was set and she wouldn’t have been able to juggle the syndicated show and her fox sitcom,” an insider told CNN.
The insider continued, believing Bialik’s upcoming guest role makes sense while “Jeopardy!” figures out its behind-the-scenes drama.
“Now that there is some more time to figure things out, she has become a real viable choice for Sony,” the person continued. “It just makes sense to ask her to step in for several weeks while they figure out next steps.”There has been some speculation that Richards, who remains for now as executive producer of “Jeopardy!,” is making decisions about the next host.”
When Bialik joined ‘Jeopardy!’ as one of its two hosts, she announced her excitement in a statement. Bialik said she’s happy to be a part of the “Jeopardy!” family and continue Alex Trebek’s legacy. But since then, some fans have called Bialik out as well for past comments.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to join the ‘Jeopardy!’ family,” she said. “What started out with my 15-year-old repeating a rumor from Instagram that I should guest host the show has turned into one of the most exciting and surreal opportunities of my life! I’m so grateful and excited to continue to work with Mike Richards, and I’m just over the moon to join forces with him and Sony. After all the conversations we’ve had about this partnership, I am just so ready to get started!”
