‘Jeopardy!’ Guest Host Recalls Meeting Alex Trebek
When discussing his favorite “Jeopardy!” moment, Gupta recalls an encounter with the late Alex Trebek.
“I did get a chance to briefly meet Alex Trebek once at a ceremony,” he recalls. “We didn’t get to talk much but I really wish we had. But, it was a favorite moment because he’s Alex Trebek and he just carries himself a certain way. There is this energy that you feel in meeting Alex Trebek because most assuredly it will be followed by telling all of your friends that you just met Alex Trebek.”
Gupta also recalls watching “Jeopardy!” with his parents as a youngster and the impact it had on him. He says he is now able to watch the game show with his own kids.
“As a kid watching “Jeopardy!” with my parents,” he says of a cherished memory. “My parents are immigrants. English is not their first language. Still, they could do well when they played. It was inspiring to me to see them come out like that over a quiz show game here in the United States.”
As excited as he is for the opportunity to host “Jeopardy!,” the game show is just as excited to have him for the next two weeks. The show took to social media on Sunday to formally welcome their newest guest host.
“CNN’s Dr. Sanjay is a long-time ‘Jeopardy!’ fan, and now he’s a guest host!,” the Instagram post exclaims. “Tune in Monday for Dr. Sanjay Gupta’s first day!”
