During a recent interview, new Jeopardy! host Mayim Bialik opened up about a “fun secret” that most fans probably missed while she guest-hosted the game show in June.
Earlier this week, showrunners announced that the game show would take on two new hosts instead of one. Following legendary host Alex Trebek’s November death, Jeopardy! has utilized numerous celebrity guest hosts as fill-ins. Nine months later the show revealed that two of the previous guest hosts would share the Jeopardy! podium.
The game show’s executive producer Mike Richards will be the regular host while Bialik will take over duties for primetime specials. The former Blossom and Big Bang Theory actress recently opened up about her newest gig when speaking with the Jewish Journal. Bialik is outspoken about her religion and is proud of her Jewish heritage. Yet many Jeopardy! fans likely didn’t notice her subtle nod to her faith while guest-hosting the game show.
“Here’s a fun secret: I wore a Jewish star in every episode of Jeopardy! that I guest-hosted,” Bialik told the Jewish Journal. “Sometimes a pin, sometimes a ring and most often, one of two ‘hidden’ Mogen Dovids. One of my outfits featured earrings from The City of David in Jerusalem, which were unearthed in a dig in recent years. I find ways to maintain my sense of ‘Jewishness’ wherever I go. And it’s especially important to me to do that on such a public stage.”
“I look forward to finding more ways to honor my family and my people and the legacy of Alex Trebek as I begin my High Holiday season with planning filming for Jeopardy!,” she added.
‘Jeopardy!’ Host Mayim Bialik Shares Who She Thought Would Be the New Host
On Wednesday, news broke that not one but two hosts would take over the popular game show. As previously stated, the show chose for Mike Richards to take over all daily syndicated episodes. In addition, they added actress Mayim Bialik to take the reins of primetime specials. However, Bialik admitted she thought only one host would land the gig, and didn’t think it would be herself.
She addressed her selection as one of the newest Jeopardy! hosts in a video she posted on Twitter for her fans. She thanked everyone for their support and said she was excited and overwhelmed by the recent news.
“Thank you, everybody! It’s been a very exciting and overwhelming day, but in a very good way,” Bialik said in a video on Twitter.
Additionally, Bialik added that she spoke to Mike Richards about their new jobs. The actress admitted she thought he’d be the sole host hired on the game show.
“I spoke to Mike Richards, who is my fellow host of Jeopardy! now. That was really awesome to get to tell him how I thought all along that he was gonna be the host!” Bialik revealed.
