With Jeopardy! once again searching for a host, fans are eagerly saying who they think should fill the seat. Despite reportedly never being considered for a permanent hosting position, LeVar Burton’s supporters have made a petition for him to host the show and it’s almost at 300,000 signatures.

LeVar Burton has always been a popular candidate for the hosting position. He has received overwhelming support this year and even expressed his own desire to take on the role. Sadly, after his guest-hosting segment in July, it was announced shortly afterward executive producer Mike Richards would instead.

Richards’ past controversial remarks on his podcast led to him reportedly undertaking sensitivity training. Though he will remain the show’s executive producer, even that seems to be a problem. Jeopardy! producers say they will continue using a rotating roster of guest hosts until a new permanent one is found.

Because of this, fans have taken to a petition that started in 2020 to make Burton the new host. As of now, the petition is at 279,000, with the number steadily climbing. According to the petition, Burton “has inspired and shaped the minds of several generations of trivia-loving nerds.”

“This petition is to show Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. and producers Mike Richards and Harry Friedman just how much love the public has for Burton, and how much we’d all love to see him as the next host of Jeopardy!

Burton himself has said he would be “honoring Alex’s legacy by standing on the podium.” Though it’s questionable if the petition will make a difference in the long haul, it may give Burton the extra push he needs to secure the position.

‘Jeopardy!’ Champ Arthur Chu Explains Where The Show Messed Up In Finding Alex Trebek’s Replacement

Jeopardy! champion Arthur Chu has won 11 games and is truly worthy of the moniker. In an opinion piece for The Washington Post, the game show star reveals how he thinks Jeopardy! misstepped while searching for a new host.

“At my tapings, Trebek told us that if he were ever to retire, his one piece of advice to his successor would be, ‘Stay out of the way, and let the contestants be the stars,” Chu explains. He goes on to say when Trebek passed away, most fans expected a replacement to already have been chosen. Doing so would have allowed the show to return to normal relatively quickly.

However, that wasn’t the case. Chu claims the show “trampled” Trebek’s directive. “The hunt for the new host became a public circus of “on-the-job tryouts” featuring a glamorous roster of A-listers, and the star of the show became the week’s celebrity guest host. Each episode, their followers tuned in to root for them, not the actual contestants.”

Chu has a point. As of late, the focus of the show has been who the new host will be. He rounds out his piece saying there can still be a place for the show, as long as it focuses on the contestants again.
