After months off the air, beloved game show Jeopardy! is officially returning. A confirmation Thursday reveals the show will be returning to TV with new episodes beginning Monday, September 14. This news comes to us following a three-month hiatus due to shutdowns related to coronavirus, TVLine reports.

Jeopardy’s host, Alex Trebek says,”I feel good, and I feel excited because once again Jeopardy! has demonstrated that it’s at the forefront of television programming.” He continues, “I believe we are the first quiz show to come back on the air in the COVID-19 era. On a personal level, I’m excited because it gets me out of the house. It gives me something to do on a regular basis, and I was missing that.”

Along with Jeopardy!, Wheel of Fortune will resume with a few changes to support the health and safety of those on set. As a result of the pandemic, some design adjustments were made to the Jeopardy! stage to allow for social distancing among contestants.

“The productions have protocols in place in accordance with current government guidelines to protect contestants, staff, crew and talent from the spread of COVID-19. While some things may have changed behind the scenes and on the set to keep everyone safe, fans can expect to see the same Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! they have come to love when the season starts.”

The greatest of all time returns

The show’s returning announcement also reveals that Ken Jennings, the unstoppable Jeopardy! G.O.A.T., will jump onboard as a consulting producer. It is reported that Jennings will “present his own special video categories, develop projects, assist with contestant outreach, and serve as a general ambassador for the show.”

Trebek is reportedly “looking forward to returning to work” amidst his ongoing battle with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. The game show legend says that in spite of his chances, an experimental immunotherapy treatment is “paying off.”

He added, “My doctor has told me that he is counting on me celebrating two years of survivorship past the diagnosis. That two years happens in February. So I expect to be around — because he said I will be around — and I expect to be hosting the show if I am around.”
