Over the weekend, Jeopardy! officially announced the massive amount of money raised for various charities during recent guest host appearances.
This season had quite the different feel to it without longtime host Alex Trebek behind the podium. The legendary host passed away in November 2020 after battling pancreatic cancer. As the popular game show came back earlier this year, it used a rotating cast of celebrity guest hosts through Season 37.
Before each interim host took over the game show, they also got to pick their favorite charity that would receive the donations. As a way to give back, Jeopardy! matched the total winnings of all contestants and donated the same amount to each guest host’s chosen charity. In fact, the act of generosity by the famous game show ended up raising a staggering amount of money. The cumulative amount in charitable contributions came to an astounding $2,974,227.
‘Jeopardy!’ Announces Most Recent Guest Host’s Charitable Donation Amount
Jeopardy! just announced the most recent guest host Joe Buck‘s charity earnings from his one-week stint on the game show as well.
The FOX Sports announcer chose a hometown charity in Missouri-based KidSmart. The nonprofit organization received $159,601 for Buck’s efforts on the trivia show. The huge donation will help kids in the St. Louis area succeed by providing accessible, essential tools for learning.
“$159,601 donated to @kidsmartstl, thanks to @joebuck’s appearance as guest host!” the game show wrote on Instagram.
The baseball and football announcer was the final guest host of Season 37. The game show brought its host search to an end recently and named its permanent host. Following eight months and 16 guest hosts, the show’s producers chose someone close to home. They selected Jeopardy! executive producer Mike Richards, but they also had a surprise up their sleeve. Additionally, they added actress Mayim Bialik to host primetime specials.
Mayim Bialik Didn’t Think She Would Get the Job
Last week, the breaking news about two Jeopardy! hosts being hired made waves because of the unexpected double hire. However, Mayim Bialik recently admitted that she thought only one host would earn the job. In fact, she didn’t think she was in contention for the position at all.
The former Jeopardy! guest host opened up about her selection in a recent Twitter post. The Big Bang Theory star thanked her fans for their support and shared how thrilled she is to take on the position.
“Thank you, everybody! It’s been a very exciting and overwhelming day, but in a very good way,” Bialik said in a video on Twitter.
In addition, Bialik also said she has spoken to Mike Richards about their new gigs. She shared that she thought all along that Richards was the right man to replace the iconic Alex Trebek.
“I spoke to Mike Richards, who is my fellow host of Jeopardy! now. That was really awesome to get to tell him how I thought all along that he was gonna be the host!” Bialik revealed.
