‘Jeopardy!’: Ryan Reynolds Calls Guest Host LeVar Burton a ‘National Treasure’ As He Tries His Hand at Something New

We all know that LeVar Burton is a man of many talents. In addition to debuting as the latest guest host on Jeopardy!, Burton tried out something new on Monday.

LeVar Burton is the latest in a long line of celebrity guest hosts on the popular game show. Jeopardy! has turned to a series of guest hosts while it tries to narrow who can permanently replace the legendary Alex Trebek, who passed away in November 2020 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Burton, of course, is a fan-favorite actor who has appeared on Star Trek. He’s also the host of the Reading Rainbow. However, he decided to turn the tables completely upside down on Monday. Not only was that his debut on Jeopardy!, he also stepped in for fellow Ryan Reynolds in an advertisement for Aviation American Gin.

“Everybody’s been saying how great Levar Burton is, so I decided to have him step in for me as the spokesperson for Aviation Gin,” Reynolds says in the video. “LeVar?”

“Thanks, Ryan. The smooth refreshing taste of Aviation American Gin. For an out-of-this-world gin and tonic,” Burton says as he takes a sip of his drink. “Mmmmm.”

“Mmm. Now that man is a god d*mn national treasure,” Reynolds says with a smile.

Ryan Reynolds definitely has a point here. LeVar Burton is without a doubt a national treasure. But heck, Ryan Reynolds is a national treasure in his own way as well. Aviation American Gin is just fine with going back to Reynolds as their spokesperson. Have a look at the clip below:

“We’ll miss @levarburton being our spokesperson but we know he was meant for @Jeopardy and will be watching him all week. Guess we’re stuck with @VancityReynolds.”

LeVar Burton is Interested in the Full-Time ‘Jeopardy!’ Host Position

Filling the shoes of the late great Alex Trebek is nothing to take lightly. After all, Trebek was the man behind the iconic Jeopardy! lectern for more than 37 years. But LeVar Burton is not only up for the challenge of coming on as the latest guest host. He wants it to be known that he’s interested in the full-time gig.

“I’ve been a fan of ‘Jeopardy!’ for all my life, and when this opportunity came by, I could not pass it up,” Burton told viewers in an exclusive Jeopardy! interview. “I think the highlight for me has been meeting the contestants and seeing how good they are at this game.”

But let’s not act like Burton hasn’t been around show business himself. He admitted in the Jeopardy! exclusive that he has been in the industry for 45 years.

“Look I have been in this business for 45 years, and the team here at ‘Jeopardy!’ [is] one of the best I have ever encountered in my life,” he explained. “Alex did this for 37 years — the man was like butter. And for me, I think all in all I’m gonna walk away happy tonight.”
