During a new interview, Hollywood A-lister Ryan Reynolds spoke about his last phone call with legendary Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek before he passed away.

The longtime host of the popular game show died in November 2020 after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer. However, before he passed, Trebek made a cameo appearance for Reynolds’ upcoming movie titled Free Guy. As the film gears up to hit theaters on August 13, the Deadpool actor gave an exclusive interview to E! News where he spoke about Trebek’s unexpected cameo.

“We shot that separately,” Reynolds said to E! News about the Jeopardy! host’s small role in the movie. “Actually after the film had been completely done and dusted and completed. Alex was kind enough to jump in and do this little cameo for us. I was just so blown away by how sweet he was to do that.”

The two celebrities got to know each other and became friendly off-camera before Trebek passed away. Not long before his death, Reynolds spoke to Trebek on the phone about a charity initiative. The famous actor complimented Trebek for being a good guy until the very end. In addition, he called his upcoming cameo appearance in Free Guy “bittersweet.”

“Even right up before shortly before he passed away, I talked to him on the phone about a charity initiative he was trying to launch,” Reynolds recalled. “This guy was really made of good stuff right until the end. Having him in the movie is certainly bittersweet, that’s for sure.”

He then welcomed the three contestants before speaking directly to the audience and viewers at home.

Faber spoke about his experience on the game show as a contestant on Celebrity Jeopardy!. Additionally, Faber said he intends to honor Trebek’s standard, which he set during his lengthy career on the trivia show.

“I am so excited to be here,” Faber said. “As a financial journalist, I live in a world of facts. And what I love is that’s what Jeopardy! is all about. Having also played as a contestant with Alex, I understand just how important it was to him that the players were able to perform at their very best. I hope and intend to honor that standard as a guest host this week.”
