‘Jeopardy!’: Savannah Guthrie Makes Guest Hosting Debut, Here’s What Fans Are Saying

Journalist and television personality Savannah Guthrie’s “Jeopardy!” hosting tenure is off and running and appears to be off to a good start.

Guthrie’s “Jeopardy!” debut came on Monday. She is the ninth celebrity to take on hosting duties since the passing of longtime host Alex Trebek. Guthrie is only the third female to step into the role, joining fellow journalist Katie Couric and actress Mayim Bialik.

As other celebrity hosts have, Guthrie honored the late Alex Trebek in her first episode. Fans of the popular quiz show say she is off to a good start. As they have with practically every other guest host, fans took to social media to express their thoughts.

“Savannah Guthrie is so excited to guest host “Jeopardy!” she could pinch herself!” the Jeopardy! post proclaims.

Social media reactions to Guthrie’s first performance came fast and furious as soon as her first episode ends. Most fans seem to agree that she did a fine job during her initial outing as “Jeopardy!” guest host.

“I was pleasantly surprised,” a Jeopardy! fan writes on social media. “Very natural and her interactions with and interest in the contestants seems genuine.”

‘Jeopardy!’ Fans Weigh In

Some “Jeopardy!” fans were so impressed that they are already lobbying to see Guthrie receive consideration for the permanent gig.

“Savannah Guthrie, you are doing such a great job,” another fan of the show tweets. ‘Jeopardy!’ you might want to hire her full time!”

Other fans say they will reserve their thoughts and opinions until Guthrie has had more time on the “Jeopardy!” set.

“Not bad for day one,” another watcher tweeted. “If a new host would watch sometimes. Need to see how she does for the rest of the days as host. At least not a comedian or former sports star.”

While reviews of her first performance were positive, there were “Jeopardy!” fans who provided constructive criticism on social media.

“Not a great fit,” another fan writes. “Too robotic for my taste and she doesn’t feel natural and fun. She seems bored with a lack of enthusiasm and a fun personality.”

Guthrie’s second Jeopardy! episode will come later on Tuesday. She will remain the host of the ever-popular game show for the next two weeks with Friday, June 25, set to be her final episode. Fellow journalist, Dr. Sanjay Gupta will then assume the position of guest host.

We still don’t know when Jeopardy! will choose a new permanent host but it is likely to come later this year. Trebek passed away late last year after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer. He stood behind the Jeopardy! host’s lectern for 37 years before his death on November 8 of last year.
