‘Jeopardy!’: Sports Fans Shocked When Contestants Can’t Name Insanely Famous Athlete

“Jeopardy!” contestants are rarely left stumped by a question on the hit game show. They’re usually trying to buzz in as fast as they can, and some even make a spectacle of themselves in the process.

However, last night (Feb. 16), one of those rare occasions occurred when all three “Jeopardy!” players were left letting the time run out. Game show guest host, Ken Jennings, read the quiz show contestants this clue.

“Recently, this baller-barista launched Big Face Coffee and turned his new team, the Miami Heat, into a title contender,” Jennings says.

The trio of contestants was unable to find the correct answer even with a photo of the NBA Star. When none of the contestants responded, Jennings says, “We were looking for Jimmy Butler.”

Internet Lights Up After Stumping ‘Jeopardy!’ Question

As history would have it, jocks love to poke fun at nerds, especially when they seemingly don’t know everything. Sports fans of “Jeopardy!” took this opportunity to share their thoughts on the unanswered question on social media.

Penn State football reporter, Audrey Snyder, shares a tweet, complete with a GIF of Jimmy Butler. She writes, “When three people on Jeopardy couldn’t identify Jimmy Butler.” The short clip is extremely fitting. Butler rolls his eyes and makes several facial expressions, showing disbelief.

Other also chimed in with their thoughts. “Today on Jeopardy!: noooo nobody recognized Jimmy Butler :(” writes one person.

“Lmao they really didn’t know who Jimmy butler was on jeopardy and they put up a picture of his face and said the team he plays for,” comments this viewer.

“Today on ‘Stupid a– s–t that happened on Jeopardy’ in the Jeopardy round, the $1000 question for the category ‘Hoops’ was a picture of 2020 NBA finalist Jimmy Butler, and yes, you guessed it, not a single person knew who he was…” another poster jokes.

Jimmy Butler Isn’t a Nobody

“Jeopardy!” contestants are usually full of useless information. Though sometimes when it comes to knowing everyday things, they’re stumped. As the saying goes, “they can put a rocket into outer space, but they can’t tie their own shoes.”

Maybe that’s why these three were left speechless when Jimmy Butler’s face flashed on the screen. He’s not really a “nobody.”

Butler has played in the NBA since 2011 for the Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Philadelphia 76ers. The 31-year-old is currently with the Miami Heat. According to the NBA’s website, Butler scores about 19.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game with a player impact estimate of 18.6.

What’s more, Butler has also won a gold medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. He was even in the headlines last week for his game against the New York Knicks. The Heat forward was fouled by Julius Randle and hit the floor as if he was hurt by the incident.

Fans and sportscasters were worried that he was hurt as they watched him writhe in pain. However, he hopped up and walked off the court after a few moments.

Butler’s response to the incident is quite comical.

“I’ve studied Mark Wahlberg and how he acts so incredibly well,” Butler said after the game, via the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. “I’ve taken a few pointers.”
