Fans of the very popular trivia show “Jeopardy!” are used to seeing surprise faces on the screen when tuning in each night.

Since the wonderful and legendary longtime host of the show, Alex Trebek, passed away in November, producers have cycled through some popular and prominent media figures to host the show.

There has been a total of 10 different guest hosts on the show. It started with infamous contestant Ken Jennings who hosted for six weeks instead of two weeks like everyone else. Now, Savannah Guthrie from NBC’s “Today” is hosting until June 25. While fans seem to be enjoying her stint as guest host, they also were very excited to see Mo Rocca pop up on their screens.

Mo Rocca Delivers Clues

Mo Rocca is currently a correspondent for “CBS Sunday Morning.” He is also the host and creator of “My Grandmother’s Ravioli” on the Cooking Channel. However, his podcast and book called “Mobituaries with Mo Rocca” is what got him the small spotlight on “Jeopardy!”

He delivered an entire category about obituaries. The category was called “Mobituaries with Mo Rocca” as well. One of the first clues is “I explore these early humans the archetypal cave men portrayed as uncivilized and primitive, but who actually exhibited intelligence behavior. And though they’ve long disappeared, they remain a part of us showing up today in our DNA tests.”

Fans seemed to enjoy seeing the intelligent and humorous personality on the show. One person wrote on Twitter, “If Mo isn’t on the guest host roster, he should be.” As of now, Rocca is not on the guest host list.

Those still waiting to host are Dr. Sanjay Gupta, George Stephanopoulos, Robin Roberts, LeVar Burton, David Faber, and Joe Buck. The next full-time host is expected to be selected sometime this summer before the next season of the show starts filming.

Mo Rocca as ‘Jeopardy!’ Guest Host

Mo Rocca would fit right into the kinds of personalities the show’s executives are selecting as guest hosts. Several hosts have been journalists or affiliated with some kind of network on TV. Many are also incredibly intelligent. Mayim Bialik is a neurosurgeon.

Perhaps with enough fan support, Rocca could get on “Jeopardy!” if he wanted to. LeVar Burton actively campaigned for his spot and even tweeted out his support for a fan-based Change.org petition to get him on the show. However, this isn’t necessarily what got him on the show.

“It’s not a matter of picking up the phone and people clearing their calendars, and then just showing up. There’s a lot that goes into these bookings. It was much more about the conversations that we had than really him lobbying, because really, no one else has lobbied.  It’s really been a kind of a very quiet path to cerebral conversations, and then us making decisions,” Executive Producer Mike Richards said according to USA Today.
