Buckle up, “Jeopardy!” fans. The final day of the Tournament of Champions is upon us. Tonight, a new champion will be crowned. The past two weeks have been full of high-level trivia play, and tonight promises to deliver even more. The “Jeopardy!” Twitter account posted prior to the final round to drum up some excitement.

As it stands, Sam Kavanaugh is in the lead. He turned in a dominant performance last night to rack up $38,000. The effort separated him from fellow competitors Veronica Vichit-Vadakan and Jennifer Quail. Veronica trails with $6,400, and Jennifer has $14,500.

It’s hard to overstate the implications of tonight’s matchup. The winner will walk away with $250,000, and he or she will live forever in “Jeopardy!” lore. The host of the competition himself, Buzzy Cohen, earned the title in 2017. And it very well may be his last appearance on the show, as his decision to become a guest host eliminated him from competing in any “Jeopardy!” events in the future.

‘Jeopardy!’ Fans Chime in on Twitter

One of the biggest takeaways from this year’s Tournament of Champions has been the appeal of Buzzy Cohen as a host on “Jeopardy!” Fans chimed in on the teaser for tonight’s upcoming round, and there seemed to be a consensus.

“I’m more excited for this than the Leafs next playoff game! But I also don’t want it to end because @buzztronics has been the best host. Please do the right thing,” wrote one Twitter user.

“This has been a fun TOC. @buzztronics is your Man for the Host JOB !!!!! He has done a GREAT JOB !!!” another added.

“I can’t wait to see it! Had to miss yesterday’s game because I had to work!” one more replied.

Permanent Hosting Job Still up in the Air

With Buzzy Cohen providing a break from the regularly scheduled “Jeopardy!” guest hosts, fans are abuzz with the prospect of him taking over the permanent duties.

We still have no word on who the show is seriously considering for the position. But we know that Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and “Reading Rainbow” star LeVar Burton have expressed interest in the job.

Next up at bat is “The Big Bang Theory” star Mayim Bialik. Based on an interview she did with People, the actress is humbled by the opportunity.

“I’ve been saying it’s really one of the most iconic things I think that I’m ever going to do in my career,” she said. “It’s going to feel like Forrest Gump, like I’ve been inserted into the Jeopardy! set.”

With a number of future guest hosts yet to take the stage, it’s anyone’s guess as to who has a line on the permanent job. According to the producers, however, we should have an answer sometime this summer.
