In a video that was posted in 2013, teen contestant Barrett Block gave a humble brag as he won the game of “Jeopardy!”
Teen ‘Jeopardy!’ Final Question
The category for the Final Jeopardy! was “Military Men.” Alex Trebek read the clue that stated, “On June 6, 1944, he said, “The eyes of the world are upon you.” Any guesses?
“I should mention that right now, all three of you have exceeded the minimum for third and second place,” said Trebek. “Barrett, we come to you. You are in third place today with 9,000. What did you write down as your response?”
The first “Jeopardy!” contestant to answer was Barrett. And he answered correctly with Dwight D. Eisenhower. Alex Trebek continued, saying that Eisenhower is the “supreme allied commander for the forces invading Europe. You are correct.”
The young contestant risked $9,000 on the guess and was thankfully rewarded. He ended the game with $18,000. However, the day before, Barrett won $17,600. So, the kid took home a total of $35,600!
Contestant Makes Hilarious Joke About Wrong Answer
The second contestant went into the final question with $14,400. He answered Winston Churchill, although he crossed it out and wrote FDR underneath. Unfortunately, he bet $7,000 on his response and lost the game. But it wasn’t a big loss – his two-day total winnings amounted to $26,400.
The final contestant was feeling confident, despite his answer.
“He’s looking pretty happy. Why? Did he come up with Dwight D. Eisenhower?”
The kid did not come up with Dwight D. Eisenhower. In fact, his response was “Some guy in Normandy, but I just won $75,000.” And, after betting $0 on his answer, he did in fact leave with $75,000. A safe but smart “Jeopardy!” play that we can easily respect! Heck, we wouldn’t gamble with $75,000 on the line either. Alex Trebek burst out laughing, cheering for the young man and said “Yes! You did indeed!” The teen beamed ear to ear with an excited smile.
“One of the things I love about the Teen Tournament is these guys have marvelous senses of humor!” said Alex Trebek. “Back to a different tournament tomorrow.”
Upcoming Tournament Of Champions
While it isn’t teen “Jeopardy!” the 2021 Tournament of Champions is set to happen on May 17 through the 28th. Former “Jeopardy!” Champion Buzzy Cohen is returning to the show to guest host the event.
According to the “Jeopardy!” website, in 2016, Cohen won $164,603 throughout nine games. He returned in 2017 to win the Tournament of Champions and in 2019 as a team captain for the All-Star Games.
