Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions host Buzzy Cohen had a very close bond with the show’s longtime host Alex Trebek.
Cohen officially made his hosting debut on Monday night during the show’s Tournament of Champions. However, this is not the first time being on the Jeopardy! set for the 36-year-old. Cohen originally was on the show in 2016 when he won six straight episodes. After that run, he was invited to the 2017 Tournament of Champions and he won that as well.
There is no doubt that Jeopardy! has turned Buzzy Cohen into a star. But what’s more than all of the money he made and all of the recognition he’s gotten is the relationships that have came along the way. And none of those have been more important and influential than Cohen’s relationship with the late Alex Trebek.
Trebek has meant so much more to Cohen than just being a host. Their connection is one that Cohen still draws upon today to help him prepare for hosting the show. The former Jeopardy! champ said as much during a recent sit down with The View.
“What we loved about him is that he was so committed to the contestants, the clues, and to the show,” Cohen explains. “That really continues to be my north star as I got ready to be the host, prepared, and thought about how I wanted to be. I can’t be Alex Trebek, but I can be Buzzy the host as best as I can.”
Cohen also posted the interview to his official Twitter page.
“Love getting a chance to talk @Jeopardy and the #TournamentOfChampions as well as issues near and dear to my heart like mental health with @sunny of @TheView – hope you all enjoy it!”
‘Jeopardy!’ Guest Host Tributes Alex Trebek in First Episode
It was Buzzy Cohen’s first episode as the guest host of Jeopardy! Tournament on Champions on Monday night. And he did not waste any time in making a special tribute to the man that he admires and adores so much. Cohen paid tribute to Alex Trebek by reiterating the phrase that the late host coined.
“Good for you!” Cohen exclaims in the lead up to the first match. That phrase was a go-to for Alex Trebek when he spoke to contestants during the “meet the players” portion of the show.
Of course, it only makes sense for Cohen to give a shout-out to Alex Trebek. He once told him that it was his dream to follow in his footsteps as the host of Jeopardy!.
