Starting this evening, the 2021 Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions is set to kick off, and one contestant has shared how he prepared for the game show.

From May 17 to May 28, the Tournament of Champions will feature 15 of the top Jeopardy! champions from the past year. Former champion and Athens, Georgia-based lawyer Paul Trifiletti will compete once again on the game show. In early 2020, he won five straight games and totaled $100,000 in winnings. Now, he’s coming back for more with an opportunity to beat the best of the best.

Once Trifiletti received the invite from Jeopardy! to return, he got to work. He rewatched old episodes of the game show in preparation for his appearance. In addition, Trifiletti has watched a ton of award-winning films.

The contestant pinpointed one of his weakest areas of knowledge: pop culture. Therefore since he knew Academy Award-winning movies were often given as clues on Jeopardy!, he dived into them and watched as many as he could. While speaking with the Athens Banner-Herald recently, Trifiletti said he had fun studying the old movies.

“One thing that I did which was a lot of fun was watching the Academy Award-winning movies because they’re frequently asked about and they’re just great movies to watch,” Trifiletti explained.

Over the next two weeks, Trifiletti will test his knowledge on Jeopardy! once again. If he runs into any questions based on Oscar-winning movies, it sounds like he may just have a leg up on his competition.

‘Jeopardy!’ Guest Host Shares Excitement For Tournament of Champions

Former Jeopardy! legend Buzzy Cohen is guest hosting this year’s Tournament of Champions, which kicks off Monday night. He was an appropriate choice since he won the tourney just a few years ago in 2017. On Sunday, Cohen shared his excitement for the tournament in a video Jeopardy! posted to their Twitter account.

Even the late iconic host Alex Trebek would’ve appreciated Jeopardy! selecting Cohen to guest host. The longtime host gave Cohen the nickname “Mr. Personality,” so you know he’ll bring some charisma to the podium.

“The only thing better than winning, is crowning the next winner,” Cohen says in the clip, referencing his own ToC victory.

“It all starts tomorrow! You won’t wanna miss it!” Cohen captioned his tweet.

The tournament will feature 15 of the top Jeopardy! champions from this past season. The players will be competing for a whopping $250,000 grand prize. You’ll have to tune in to see how everything plays out in this year’s Tournament of Champions.
