During an exclusive interview, upcoming “Jeopardy!” celebrity guest host George Stephanopoulos discussed which one of his colleagues he thought would do the best on the hit game show.
“That’s a good question,” the broadcaster grinned during the question and answer session.
“I have a colleague, one of our senior correspondents at ABC who is unbelievably well-read,” the “Good Morning America” broadcaster said. “That’s Terry Moran. I think he would be a great contestant.”
Stephanopoulos Ready To Take on “Jeopardy!”
Stephanopoulos is prepping to take on the podium, and the hosting duties of the popular answer/question quiz show. Since the game show’s longtime host Alex Trebek passed away last fall, “Jeopardy!” has been hosted by a variety of celebrity guest hosts.
From former “Jeopardy!” winner Ken Jennings, broadcast journalists Savannah Guthrie and Katie Couric to NFL star Aaron Rodgers, the “Jeopardy!” podium has seen a variety of guest hosts.
George Stephanopoulus will be taking over the “Jeopardy!” reins starting Monday, July 12. The broadcaster will be stepping in as the most recent guest host, Dr. Sanjay Gupta ends his June 28 to July 9 guest-hosting run on the popular daytime game show.
“Jeopardy!” is known for its unique take on the classic quiz show model. The daytime favorite has been a household favorite since it premiered in the early 1980s.
Stephanopoulos is slated to tackle the question-answer hosting gig for one week starting Monday.
During his interview, the guest host described what he is most looking forward to during his time hosting the popular game show. Stephanopoulos was quick to note that he is honored to have the opportunity to fill the hosting role.
“This is really such an honor to have the chance to come and guest host,” the “Good Morning America” anchor said.
Stephanopoulos Was Happy as a Category, Now He’s a Host!
“Like everyone else, I grew up with “Jeopardy!” I love playing,” he said. “I actually never imagined I would one day be on the stage as a guest host.”
Stephanopoulos added that while he is nervous about his new guest-hosting role, it is one piece of advice from the iconic “Jeopardy!” anchor that helped him step up to the game show podium.
“It was the advice that Alex Trebek gave everyone every day when he talked about ‘Jeopardy!,'” the anchor said. “‘This is about the game, remember that first and foremost,’ and I think that really does get to the heart of the job.”
For Stephanopoulus seeing his name as part of a “Jeopardy!” category or response was super thrilling. Let alone begin able to actually host the Emmy Award-winning game show.
“I just feel lucky to have had it,” the broadcaster said of the opportunity.
