Former Jeopardy! champion and future Tournament of Champions host Buzzy Cohen does not lack for personality.
The revolving door of hosts continues this week as journalist Anderson Cooper is currently the man behind the podium. His turn as guest host comes on the heels of a successful run by Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Cooper will get two weeks in the spotlight as Jeopardy! host before handing off to fellow journalist Bill Whitaker.
He will also get two weeks at the host podium before the 2021 Tournament of Champions takes place. Cohen, the 2017 Jeopardy! Tournament of Champion winner, will handle hosting responsibilities for this year’s tournament.
‘Jeopardy!’ Fan Favorite Returning to Host Tournament
Known for his quick wit and robust sense of humor, Cohen is a Jeopardy! fan favorite. His first appearance on the show came in 2016 when he won several episodes and the hearts of the show’s fans. He would often rib and tease former host Alex Trebek, even using his Final Jeopardy! answers to make jokes. He became a viral sensation for his wacky antics on the show and once said his dream job is to be the host of Jeopardy!
“Who is you aren’t rid of me yet Trebek?” he once wrote as his Final Jeopardy! answer.
Cohen is also active on social media where he puts his big personality and sharp wit on full display. Over the weekend he took to Twitter to pose a question that his child asked of him. Unable to identify what the “Little Mermaid” eats, he took the hilarious interaction straight to social media.
“So my kid asked me what Ariel (The Little Mermaid) eats and I am not equipped for this,” he writes in the post. “Basically unless the answer is seaweed, she’s eating a friend. why?”
The hilarious tweet was put on Twitter by Cohen last Saturday. He includes a brief clip of the Little Mermaid spinning in circles with her fish friend.
Cohen, who uses a photo of himself hugging the late Alex Trebek on his Twitter profile, seems very excited about the hosting opportunity. He’ll get the opportunity to experience the tournament from the other side for once. Buzzy, whose real name is Austin David Cohen, won nine straight Jeopardy! games in his initial winning streak. He racked up more than $160,000 during the stretch. He was also named a captain for a Jeopardy! All-Star team in 2019.
