Amy Schneider just won her 13th game in a row on “Jeopardy!” this past Friday. Just as she’s getting farther and farther into her epic winning streak, it’s all being put on hold for a different engaging competition on the long-standing trivia show.

‘Jeopardy!’ Teases Professors Tournament

The Professors Tournament will start this Monday, December 6. That means that Schneider will return back to continue her streak on December 20 instead.

The official “Jeopardy!” account shared a video to get people excited for the upcoming tournament, which will be hosted by Mayim Bialik. That means Ken Jennings will be off the screen as host until December 20, as well.

“We interrupt this program to bring you a brand new competition. The ‘Jeopardy!’ Professors Tournament,” the video states. While fans seem excited to watch a tournament, some are also just eager to get to see Amy Schneider back on the screen. One person commented, “Amy is absolutely killing it! I hope this break for the professors tournament doesn’t ruin her hot streak. She is racking up some serious cash totals.”

As for Mayim Bialik, she is thrilled to be able to host the tournament with a group of talented scholars.

“It was an unbelievable thrill to see so many brilliant professors from all kinds of schools and backgrounds come together on the Jeopardy! stage. There was a sense of kinship and academic camaraderie among the group, along with a healthy dose of competitiveness. That energy made this inaugural Professors Tournament incredibly special,” she said, according to People.

More Information on the Upcoming Tournament

This is the first-ever tournament consisting of all professors to ever happen in “Jeopardy!” history.

It will bring together a diverse group of professors that come from all around the country and specialize in a number of different studies. Some of the contestants include Hester Blum, an English professor at Penn State University, Gautam Hans, an Associate Clinical Profesor of Law at Vanderbilt Law School, John Harkless, an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Howard University, and Alisa Hove, a Botanical professor from Warren Wilson College.

Each of the 15 professors will compete for a grand prize of $100,000. The winner will also get a spot in the Tournament of Champions.

Each of the contestants also shared their relationship with “Jeopardy!” on the official site for the show. Hove stated, “I started watching Jeopardy! when I was a kid in middle school with my mom. It became one of our favorite family shows that we watched together. In fact, when we were kids, we used to tease my mom that she had a huge crush on Alex Trebek.”
