Legendary “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek may have passed away more than six months ago, but he has not been forgotten. His legacy lives on thanks to the famous quiz show, the guest hosts who continue to praise him, his family, and the awards being bestowed upon him.

Most recently Trebek, who hosted “Jeopardy!” for 37 years before his death in November 2020, was chosen to receive a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Game Show Host. The award was announced on Friday, June 25.

Fittingly, Alex Trebek’s children, Matt Trebek and Emily Trebek, accepted the Daytime Emmy on behalf of their late father.

“We are so honored to accept this award on behalf of our dad,” Matt said as Emily stood by his side.

Alex Trebek’s Son Said His Father ‘Was Always So Proud’ of Show

Matt then shared a few words about this father felt about the show that he helped make a success.

“For as long as we can remember, he was always so proud to be a part of ‘Jeopardy!’ To work on a show that was based on knowledge, risk, and the challenge people had to think. He loved every bit of it,” Matt shared.

Emily Trebek shared how her father truly enjoyed his job – even when he was ill and battling pancreatic cancer.

“Over the past 37 years, the show became his second family,” she said. “He was always excited to go to work even during his battle with cancer. He was so fortunate that he was able to do what he loved. And we know he not once took it for granted.”

Unsurprisingly, Emily, Matt, and other members of the Trebek family were grateful that Alex Trebek received the posthumous honor.

“So on behalf of our family, we thank you so much,” Emily said.

Daytime Emmy Isn’t the Only Award Recently Given to ‘Jeopardy!’ Host Alex Trebek

The Daytime Emmy Award earned by “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek is not the only award his children have recently accepted on his behalf.

Earlier in June 2021, Matt Trebek and Emily Trebek accepted their father’s Impact Award bestowed upon him at the 2021 Critics Choice Awards. And, while acknowledging her father’s contributions, Emily also thanked the fans of “Jeopardy!” and others for the kindness and love they showed Alex Trebek during his illness.

“Although this award recognizes his impact on the world, the reality is it was thousands of people’s well wishes, via letters of encouragement, a thoughtful gift, a silent prayer, that made a significant impact on him,” Emily Trebek said as she and her brother accepted this award. “We thank you so much for this outpouring of love and support.”

Matt also shared that his father would have been delighted to receive the Impact Award.

“He would’ve truly appreciated the significance of this honor, as it represents the inspiration that he gave all of us throughout his life,” Matt said.
