Previous to new Jeopardy! guest host George Stephanopoulos taking over the podium of the game show, he answered some questions about the temporary gig in an exclusive interview.

The Good Morning America anchor is taking the reins tomorrow during his debut episode on Monday night. Stephanopoulos is taking over from CNN’s chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta. The television host and political commentator will be on the show all week long from July 12 to July 16.

Since Jeopardy! pre-tapes its shows, Stephanopoulos has already finished filming his episodes. The upcoming interim host took some time recently to answer questions about his experience on the trivia show.

One of the questions during the interview revolved around one of Stephanopoulos’ co-anchors on GMA. Robin Roberts is the next Jeopardy! guest host following Stephanopoulos’ short tenure on the show. She’ll be at the helm of the game show from July 19 to July 23. Stephanopoulos was asked if he had any advice for Roberts.

“You told me first that you were nervous when I wasn’t nervous – you were so right to be nervous. You made me nervous when you said you were nervous. And you don’t know the half of it. It is a stressful job, but it’s also an incredible amount of fun. You’re going to have a great time,” Stephanopoulos explained in the interview.

‘Jeopardy!’ Guest Host Expands on Why He Was Nervous to Host the Game Show

While speaking in the same interview, George Stephanopoulos shared further details about why he was so nervous to host Jeopardy!. While he’s been a staple of television viewing and acted as a host on numerous programs, the game show is simply a whole different ball game.

During the interview, Stephanopoulos admitted how nervous he was to take over as Jeopardy!‘s next guest host. He’s been a huge fan of the trivia show for years and is obviously used to being on set and on camera. But as he explained, Jeopardy! is a “very different beast.”

“Sure! Absolutely,” Stephanopoulos said when asked if he was nervous to host the game show. “I mean, it’s ’cause it’s just a very different beast from what I do every single day.”

“You know, I was telling [executive producer Mike Richards], I do morning television – Good Morning America. I do This Week. Those are slightly different shows from each other as well. But on Good Morning America, it’s two hours of live TV every day. You make mistakes. You’re gonna make mistakes. And part of the job is making that into an opportunity, recovering from it. Here on Jeopardy!, no margin of error. You have to be perfect. That’s what the viewers expect. That’s what they deserve,” he explained.
