Jeopardy! won’t release traditional contestant photos with Mike Richards following the scandal and subsequent firing of the former executive producer and host of the show. Typically, contestants get a photo with the host, but this time around.

Richards was promoted to a permanent hosting position before people found previous comments he made against multiple minority groups and women. He also had multiple lawsuits against him from his time on The Price Is Right.

Even before his past got revealed to the public, some Jeopardy! fans were livid at the hiring of Richards, an executive producer in charge of finding a new host. It seemed he had simply given himself the position, robbing Jeopardy! fans of favorites like LeVar Burton, Ken Jennings, or Mayim Bialik.

There’s only a small handful of contestants who filmed the show with Mike Richards before he stepped down. Initially, he was allowed to stay on as an executive producer but has now left the show entirely. Richards was ousted from his position after a week of filming for the show.

One contestant, Samit Sarkar, who is a deputy managing editor at Polygon, talked about the photos they received from the show on Twitter.

“I have the dubious distinction of being 1 of the 11 contestants in history to have taped with Mike Richards as “permanent” host,” Sarkar said in a tweet. He followed it up with some interesting info about the photos.

“Btw, @Jeopardy! contestants usually get 2 photos — one with the host + a headshot. We each took a photo with Mike, but were only sent the headshot!”

The First Episode of ‘Jeopardy!’ With Mike Richards as a ‘Permanent’ Host Just Aired

Jeopardy! faced a bit of an awkward situation with the new episodes. Unlike how it would be with a scripted show, they couldn’t just re-tape the episodes with a new host. That means the show has to put out the week’s worth of episodes with Mike Richards as a host because, without it, contestants would be royally robbed.

“It’s so weird that they are actually airing the Mike Richards episodes of Jeopardy. I mean, I guess they have to. Those games count. But it’s weird!” one fan of the show said in a tweet. While it’s clear Jeopardy! can’t go back and have the games re-played, it’s not helping fans live down the frustration with seeing him on screen.

Thankfully, it really is only temporary. The one saving grace of the recent episode, however, is fans loved seeing champ Matt Amodio play again, who got a 19th victory.

Now, Jeopardy! needs to find a REAL permanent host (preferably someone who doesn’t hire themself). It’s impossible to replace someone like Alex Trebek, but there are plenty of viable, qualified candidates who would be absolutely overjoyed at the opportunity.
