James Holzhauer is devastated by the loss of one of his fellow game show alums, Brayden Smith. The “Jeopardy!” game show champion asked for donations in Smith’s honor and the response has been overwhelming.
Holzhauer updated his tweet that initially asked for donations to Brayden’s memorial fund for Southern Nevada students. “I will match the first $10,000,” Holzhauer concludes the post, and adds a link to the charity.
“Update: $14,000 of donations have already been made to the Brayden Smith Memorial Fund. Thanks to everyone who has donated and please continue to spread the word,” James Holzhauer writes.
The Brayden Smith Memorial Fund is dedicating its efforts to furthering the educational aspirations of southern Nevada students.
The fraternity of past “Jeopardy!” contestants is one that few get to experience. Smith’s run on the show is one that people won’t forget. Smith fought his way for 5 consecutive episodes to remain champion with a total of $150,000.
Smith was the final multi-episode champion of Alex Trebek’s run as host of “Jeopardy!” What’s more, he’s referred to as Trebek’s “last great champion” in his final episodes. Smith, along with Holzhauer and a few other past winners, spoke out when Trebek passed.
Furthermore, TMZ points out that the late champion shared a similar playing style to iconic champ James Holzhauer. Neither was afraid to wager large sums of money. Additionally, both would consistently gravitate towards the “Daily Double” special.
