Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has defended quarterback Dak Prescott following Skip Bayless’ controversial comments on Prescott this week. The FOX Sports television personality has been on the receiving end of heavy and harsh criticism for his recent takes concerning Prescott.
Prescott recently revealed that his brother committed suicide in an interview with Graham Bensinger. Additionally, the Cowboys quarterback touched on his struggles with depression this year.
During a segment on the sports show Undisputed, Bayless questioned if Prescott was capable of leading the Cowboys while battling with depression.
Jerry Jones and Others Rally Around Dak Prescott
Bayless’ comments were insensitive to say the least. He has made a career out of controversial sports opinions. However, his recent comments came off as tone-deaf to many. Especially considering Prescott’s brother, Jace, died by suicide in April of this year. Many players and fans have rallied around Prescott and come to his defense this week.
Owner Jerry Jones is the latest to voice his support and respect for the Cowboys quarterback following Bayless’ controversial comments.
Other famous athletes have come out to defend Prescott against Bayless’ comments, including a pair of former NBA players.
FOX Sports released this statement on Thursday about Bayless:
“At FOX Sports, we are proud of Dak Prescott for publicly revealing his struggle with depression and mental health. No matter the cause of the struggle, FOX Sports believes Dak showed tremendous courage which is evident in both his leadership on the Dallas Cowboys and in his character off the field. We do not agree with Skip Bayless’ opinion on Undisputed this morning. We have addressed the significance of this matter with Skip and how his insensitive comments were received by people internally at FOX Sports and our audience.“
Prescott and the Cowboys begin their 2020 season this Sunday night against the Los Angeles Rams.
