Jimmy Buffett Hangs with A Toucan in Latest Throwback Photo and Lyrics Combo

Jimmy Buffett has been looking back at his career in songs lately. On Sunday (Jan. 17), the singer posted a throwback photo of him a feathered friend.

Shown during his younger days, Buffett poses outside with a toucan. Accompanying the photo is the caption: “What he lacked in ambition / He made up with intuition.”

Jimmy Buffett fans, who are also known as Parrotheads, or a quick Google search, can reveal that the tweeted lyrics are from his song “Cowboy In the Jungle.” It is a song about a man who just doesn’t fit in and is trying to fin his way in the world.

“There’s a cowboy in the jungle / And he looks so out of place / With his shrimpskin boots and his cheap Cheroots / And his skin as white as paste,” Buffett sings.

While he is out of place, the song’s protagonist starts to make the best of his situation. The following lyrics offer solid advice for those who find themselves in such situations. “Roll with the punches / Play all of his hunches / Made the best of whatever came his way / What he lacked in ambition / He made up with intuition / Plowing straight ahead come what may.”

The song also reminds us that life is short. “Living it day to day / And still twenty-four hours, maybe sixty good years / It’s still not that long a stay,” Buffett sings.

“Cowboy In the Jungle” appeared on Buffett’s 1978 album, “Son of a Son of a Sailor.” In addition to it and the title track, other songs on the album include “Livingston Saturday Night” and “Cheeseburger in Paradise.”

Jimmy Buffett Highlights Lesser-Known Songs

Jimmy Buffett is looking back on some of his favorite songs – ones maybe only die-hard fans will know – with the album Songs You Don’t Know By Heart, which was released in 2020. The album’s title is a play on the title of one of Buffett’s greatest hits albums – Songs You Know By Heart.

Buffett worked with his daughter, Delaney, to create the album. They also created a series of videos of him performing the lesser-known tunes. The album includes songs such as “The Captain and the Kid,” “Death of an Unpopular Poet,” “Tin Cup Chalice,” and “Little Miss Magic.”

Jimmy Buffett hopes to get back to touring during 2021. According to his website, he has concerts planned beginning April 15 in North Charleston. Other planned stops include performances in Charlotte, North Carolina, Nashville, Tennessee, Cincinnati, Ohio, Wantagh, New York, and Red Rocks in Morrison, Colorado.

He is also scheduled to travel across the pond to perform in England, Ireland, and France in September. He will return to the states for more tour dates in December.
