John Reilly, the beloved actor best known for his role on the long-running “General Hospital” has died. He was 84 years old. A cause of death is not yet known. His daughter, Caitlin Reilly broke the news of his passing in a touching Instagram post.
The actress and TikTok personality shared a throwback photo of her with her father. In the post, she said of her late father, “Imagine the best person in the world. Now imagine that person being your dad. I’m so grateful he was mine.”
In the post, she expressed not only her gratitude for her loving father but also for the ability to be with him in the end. She was able to be there in time to hold him and to say goodbye. She concludes the heartfelt caption by saying that she doesn’t know what she’ll do now, but knows John Reilly will always be with her in spirit.
John Reilly’s Acting Career
John Reilly’s acting career spanned almost four decades. His first acting role was in “As the World Turns,” in 1974. He would go on to do small roles in several of the biggest television shows of the era. These roles included shows like “Gunsmoke,” “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “Hawaii Five-O,” and “Wonder Woman” and several more. Before he had a big role in “General Hospital,” Reilly landed a part on “Dallas” as Roy Ralston. A decade after his role in “As the World Turns,” Reilly took the role on “General Hospital.
After leaving “General Hospital,” Reilly stayed busy, taking several roles. The biggest of his post-GH roles was that of Alistair Crane on “Passions” He played the villainous Crane for several years. After leaving “Passions” in 2008, he had a short run on the “General Hospital” spin-off series “General Hospital: Night Shift,” reprising his role from the original series. According to his IMDb page, his last role was a return to “General Hospital” in 2013.
John Reilly is survived by his wife Liz and three daughters.
