John Wayne ‘Duke Days of May’ Movie Marathon: Here’s Which Film Fans Voted as Their Favorite

In May, John Wayne and his Western glory took over our television screens again.

Throughout May “The Duke Days of May” showcased all of The Duke’s most popular movies of his career. INSP, which commonly shows original Western series and movies, gave John Wayne a spotlight last month. May also happens to be the birth month of the popular actor.

As we are now a few days into June, which John Wayne movie played last month was the fan-favorite?

According to a recent Instagram post from INSP, it looks like Wayne’s classic 1963 film called “McLintock!” came out on top. It looks like it’s a mixed reaction in the comment section on whether this is truly the fan-favorite or not.

“McLintock!” is about a wealthy rancher named G.W. McLintock. He uses his power to help keep the peace between all the farmers, ranchers, land-grabbers, Native Americans, and government officials in the area. The movie has a 57% on Rotten Tomatoes, a 7.2/10 on IMDb, and a 62% on Metacritic. The movie also stars Maureen O’Hara.

“McLintock!” also has certain aspects of love, romance, comedy, and drama. Some of which circulates around George Washington “G.W.” McLintock and his wife Katherine’s daughter, Becky. She is played by Stefanie Powers.

The May film marathon played all the John Wayne greats. From “Hondo” to “Rio Bravo” to “Big Jake” to “El Dorado” to “Sands of Iwo Jima.” While “McLintock!” was voted the fan favorite on INSP, it hasn’t been the favorite on all platforms.

On IMDb, “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance” from 1962 has the highest rating of 8.1 Then “Rio Bravo” has the second-highest rating of 8.0. “The Searchers,” “Stagecoach,” and “The Quiet Man” are other top Wayne movies. Surprisingly, “True Grit” secured a 7.4. Meanwhile, “McLintock!” isn’t in the top 15 movies.

John Wayne and ‘McLintock!’

As it turns out, there’s a bit of a family connection when it comes to the film “McLintock!”

John Wayne’s oldest son, Michael, was actually the only producer of the film. He had worked on many projects afterwards, but this was actually the first film that he fully produced by himself. Patrick Wayne, another one of John Wayne’s sons, also has an acting role in the movie.

Michael Wayne also worked on a number of different movies like “McQ,” “Big Jake,” and “The Green Berets.”

He was also the leader of the family’s production company, Batjac Productions. According to Michael Wayne’s obituary in the Los Angeles Times from 2003, John Wayne was beyond proud of his son and the work he did. John Wayne once said, “that kid of mine runs a tight ship. He’s all business and no nonsense.” Michael Wayne had completed “McLintock!” within the $4 million budget. Like any proud dad, John Wayne wanted to gloat.

Michael Wayne also formed John Wayne Enterprises in order to help control his father’s legacy after his death.
