John Wick is spinning off a new action movie with a female lead. And a No Time to Die co-star is in negotiations to join the cast.

The John Wick spinoff is called Ballerina. And Ana de Armas likely will be its lead. That’s according to The Hollywood Reporter.

De Armas is in the recently-released James Bond flick, No Time to Die. She portrayed Paloma, a CIA agent assisting James Bond. Daniel Brag stars as the iconic character. And it’s his fifth and final time to play Bond, James Bond, in the iconic movie franchise.

De Armas may be more familiar for her breakout role in another movie — Knives Out. Coincidentally, Craig starred in that movie, too.

This John Wick spinoff will focus on a female assassin. Shay Hatten, who wrote John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum also was responsible for the spec script on Ballerina. Lionsgate purchased the script in 2017. Total Recall’s Len Wiseman is set to direct.

There’s also another John Wick spinoff in the works. This one is called The Continental and it’s more of a prequel. Derek Kostad, who created John Wick, is executive producer for the prequel. Controversial Mel Gibson will be one of the stars of the movie. Other cast announcements made last week include Colin Woodell as the young Winston Scott. Ian McShane portrayed Scott in the John Wick series. Variety reported that other cast members are Mishel Prada, Ben Robson, Hubert Point Du-Jour, Jessica Allain and Nhung Kate.

The title of the spinoff refers to the hotel that hosted a network of assassins. However, this spinoff is a made-fot-TV event. It’s headed for a three-part run on Starz. The Continental is based in New York. And the setting is 1975. Scott wants to take over the hotel.

Kevin Beggs, chairman of Lionsgate Television, said the movie can be perfect for the smaller screen. “It just cries out to be something in TV,” Beggs told the New York Post. “Just like the Marvel Universe and the DC Universe from a TV perspective are incredible opportunities, and that is our superhero franchise in the family.”

“What we’re exploring in The Continental is the young Winston and how it came to be that he and his team of confederates found their way into this hotel which we have met for the first time in the movie franchise 40 years later.”

Gibson last appeared in a TV project in 1983.

Keanu Reeves starred in the John Wick movies, which have grossed more than $600 million. A fourth already is in development with a release date set for May 27, 2022. A fifth movie is in the works, too.
