For Julia Roberts, the Fourth of July is an extra special day. In addition to it being the country’s birthday, it’s also her wedding anniversary.
Nearly 20 years ago, the legendary actress married her husband, Danny Moder, on July 4, 2002. Together, they tied the knot in a ceremony attended by George Clooney and Bruce Willis at Roberts’ ranch in Taos, New Mexico.
On July 4, to celebrate the occasion, the 53-year-old shared an adorable selfie of herself and Moder. The photo shows the cute couple on a beach, with the Oscar-winner wrapping her arm around her significant other.
“19 years,” the Pretty Woman star captioned the pic. “Just getting started.”
Before Moder, Roberts was married to singer Lyle Lovett from 1993 to 1995. The two met when Moder worked as a cameraman on her 2001 film, The Mexican. Moder was married to Vera Steimberg, but they divorced in 2002.
Julia Roberts’ Key to a Long-Lasting Marriage
In a 2015 interview with Extra, Roberts shared her secret to making her marriage last. “Probably kissing,” she confessed, adding, “I don’t think it’s exclusive to entertainment couples. I wouldn’t even think of us as an entertainment couple.”
She also revealed that she enjoyed having her husband’s company on set when she works. Moder now works as a cinematographer.
“If we got to go to work together and come home together, all that work time, when you come home and ‘Oh, honey, how was your day?’… We did all that in the day and in the car,” Roberts told Extra TV. “And by the time we got home was able to just put it all away, which was really delightful.”
In 2018, she gushed over Moder, describing him as an “awesome human being,” adding that together, the two have “so much fun.”
Roberts’ Next Project
Roberts can next be seen starring alongside Sean Penn and Dan Stevens in TV series “Gaslit,” a modern take on the Watergate scandal. The political drama is due to air on Starz later this year.
The couple share 16-year-old twins, Hazel and Phinnaeus, and son Henry, 14.
During an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Roberts fawned over her husband, saying that he brings her a sense of peace that wasn’t previously there.
“My husband, Danny, has really shined the light for me,” she shared. “Because of being married, I’ve met people and experienced all these little things that have nurtured my life—not so much changed it, just nurtured it in a way that’s astounding.”
During their early days, many believed that the couple wouldn’t make it because he was a cinematographer married to one of the most well-known celebrities. However, Roberts has proven that their marriage is timeless.
“He makes me feel my most comfortable self,” she added. “I don’t alter myself in any way.” And that’s exactly why they wear those 19 years of marriage so well.
