Country star Kacey Musgraves shared what it was like to meet one of her heroes, music icon, Cher.
With hits like “Follow Your Arrow,” “Slow Burn,” and “Rainbow,” Kacey Musgraves is inspiring countless fans with her songs. But who are the powerhouse female artists who have inspired Kacey? During an interview, Kacey opened up about the women she grew up listening to and who have inspired her music. Funny enough, three out of four of Kacey’s influences go by only one name, including music legend, Cher. So, it may not be long before Kacey Musgraves drops her last name and just goes by “Kacey.”
“She definitely does not need a last name,” jokes Kacey. “Cher is an icon. She has managed to stay relevant without selling out her entire career. And I just really admire that. I’m mean, damn, the woman has some hits.”
Kacey Musgraves Met Share On Her Birthday
Kacey says that she got to meet Cher on her birthday a few years ago while performing in Vegas.
“It was my mom, my sister and I, and a few members from my team. We all went. It was Cher’s big Vegas show. And I am such a fan, I was freaking out. And before the show, they were like ‘Do you want to meet Cher?’ And I was like, ‘Duh.’
So, Kacey and her entourage went back stage to meet the icon.
“We go back and we meet her. She was super nice. Her team was so nice. It was such a special birthday and we watched her show. We sang, ‘Do you believe in life after love.’ We had the best time,” says Kacey.
Kasey Musgraves Tried On Dolly Parton’s Clothes
Another one of Kacey Musgraves’s top four music influences is the country music legend, Dolly Parton. Kacey said that being from Texas, she grew up listening to Dolly. And in 2019, Kasey had the opportunity to present Dolly Parton an award during the Grammys. As a way to make the tribute even more unique, Dolly’s team asked Kacey if she wanted to wear one of Dolly’s past outfits. Honored by the invitation, Kacey went to Dolly’s outfit warehouse.
“She has this amazing warehouse that has, not kidding, every single piece of clothing, jewelry, shoes, that she’s ever worn since 1967,” said Kacey. “All of it has a label and a photo of her in it. And her team was so kind and said, ‘If you’d like to come and pick something out to wear to present in, you’re welcome to come and try some stuff on.'”
Kacey Had Just One Problem When Trying On Dolly’s Jumpsuit
Kacey said that she tried on all kinds of beautiful, rhinestoned jumpsuits. However, there was just one problem.
“There was just a little bit of a problem in a couple of areas that I couldn’t do justice to,” Kacey Musgraves joked while motioning to her chest. “There was just no way I was going to serve what she served in this dress.”
Kacey said that her other two influences include Sade and Selena. And although all four influences make completely different styles of music, Kacey said there is one thing that connects them all.
“They all are just flat out themselves in whatever way, shape, or form. In the industry, it’s hard if you have something different to say, or you have a different look. Because they don’t want to take chances on something they may not make money on…So it makes it harder for something new to break in. So, it means a lot to me to see these women who have had these extremely long fruitful careers. Because it means that they had to fight that much harder to have a different sound, have a different look and just flat out be female in the industry,” said Kacey.
