He has been a part of very successful film franchises throughout the years, including The Matrix and John Wick, but there is one franchise that Keanu Reeves just won’t participate in. Which is the Fast & Furious.

During a 2019 interview with Screen Rant, Fast & Furious star Dwayne Johnson revealed that Reeves was actually offered a role in the action-packed Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw film. “So, for some time, I think you guys have heard the rumor that it was going to be a bit of a John Wick, all disguised. But then we left it there [with] a few people in mind.”

The Fast & Furious castmate also confirmed that originally, Reeves was the goal. “We were talking and it just didn’t feel right creatively. He and I talked. And I totally got it. And it wound up being the best thing. So now we leave that open for the future.”

Despite Reeves’ rejection, the Fast & Furious film was actually a major success in theaters. The movie scored $760 million in the box office at a $200 million budget. Starring in the film with Johnson was Jason Statham, Idris Elba, Vanessa Kirby, Cliff Curtis, and Helen Mirren.

‘Fast & Furious’ Scribe Chris Morgan Confirmed the Franchise’s Interest in Keanu Reeves

Along with Dwayne Johnson, Fast & Furious scribe Chris Morgan also confirmed he had spoken to Keanu Reeves about participating in the action-packed franchise. “I sat down with him and we’re about talking about [the franchise],” Morgan explained to Screen Rant. “I wanted him to be in the Fast universe for a very long time.”

Morgan also admitted that the scheduling issues contributed to Reeves’ decision to decline the Fast & Furious role. “The hardest thing is always time and competing schedules. And then designing the right thing together. My fervent desire is to bring him into this franchise for sure.”

At the time, Reeves was also juggling multiple schedules for John Wick: Chapter 4, The Matrix 4, and Bill & Ted Face the Music. So it was definitely obvious that it would be difficult for him to consider a role with the Fast & Furious franchise at the time.

Although he rejected the offer for Fast & Furious, Reeves seems pretty interested in the Marvel franchise. He asked Esquire if Marvel is actually bigger than a universe. “It’s almost like a multiverse. It’s a Marvel-verse,” he explained. He also said it would be an honor to play in a Marvel film.

“There are some really amazing directors and visionaries, and they’re doing something no one’s ever really done,” Reeves goes on to add. “It’s special in that sense in terms of the scale, the ambition,  production. So it’d be cool to be a part of that.”
