Kelly Osbourne Opens Up About Addictions to Drugs and Alcohol Beginning in Her Teenage Years

Kelly Osbourne has recently opened up about her struggles with drug and alcohol addiction which began when she was a teenager.

One of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne’s many children, TV personality, actress, singer, and model Kelly Osbourne has opened up about her ongoing struggles with addiction.

Kelly Osbourne, 36, sat down with Jada Pinkett Smith, her daughter Willow, and her mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris for their talk show, “The Red Table Talk”. During the interview, Osbourne admitted to becoming addicted to drugs and alcohol at a young age and then relapsing during the pandemic.

After almost four years of sobriety, Kelly Osbourne’s lips touched the bottle in April of 2021, reported Fox News. The pandemic was tough on many, and after over a year of dealing with its ongoing issues, Kelly was starting to give in. She revealed that when she noticed a couple sipping champagne, she noted how appetizing it looked.

“I was alone, sitting by a pool and waiting for somebody to come have a meeting with me. And I saw this woman and her husband had a glass of champagne. It looked really nice, and I was like, ‘I can do that, too,’” she said on the show. “And the next day, I had two glasses. And the day after that, it was bottles.”

Kelly Osbourne’s Addiction Progresses

However, Kelly Osbourne‘s addiction started long before. At the age of 13, she had her tonsils removed. The doctor prescribed her Vicodin, a highly addictive painkiller. After the relatively normal surgery, Osbourne was hooked for life, beginning her battle with addiction.

“That was all I needed,” she sadly noted.

The TV personality continued, saying how she moved from Vicodin to Percocet to eventually heroin “because it was cheaper.”

Osbourne said the drugs were a security blanket that masked her insecurities. She explained, “it felt like life gave me a hug.”

From 2004 to 2009, she checked into three different rehab facilities for her drug addiction. Prior to 2021, she relapsed again in 2017.

Significant moments in her parent’s life usually triggered the relapses. For instance, her mother’s cancer battle and her father’s near-death experience from an ATV accident in 2003 had her craving drugs.

Kelly Osbourne’s episode of “The Red Table Talk” will air on Wednesday, June 2, on Facebook Watch at 9 a.m. PDT or noon EDT.

From 2003 until 2005, the Osbourne family starred in their own reality TV series, The Osbournes.

According to Gossip Cop, the series portrayed the unconventional life of Ozzy, his wife and manager Sharon, and their two youngest children, Jack and Kelly. In 2002, it was the highest-rated show in MTV’s 21-year history. Similarly, Jack Osbourne also struggled with alcohol and drug addiction. He has reportedly been sober for 18 years.
