Earlier this week, the 16-year-old shared the news on her TikTok account live from her audition.
“Hey guys! I’m here at ‘American Idol’ confessional,” Claudia said in the video. “I met Ryan Seacrest today and I have my audition soon, so stay tuned for that.”
Claudia said the audition made her “very, very nervous, but very excited” to sing for judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie. In fact, Perry posted a short video the same day saying “well, well, well, let the games begin because Claudia just tried out for ‘American Idol.'”
Kellyanne said that “American Idol” invited her daughter to audition for the singing competition in Ojai, California. She’s proud of Claudia for sharing her voice with the world and calls the audition for the show “next level.”
“The last three days have been a whirlwind of interviews, rehearsals and the actual audition. [Claudia] calls it the ‘coolest experience’ of her life,” Kellyanne said to PEOPLE. “She sets goals and works toward them. Of course, ‘American Idol’ is next level! We are proud of Claudia for entering the arena and sharing her beautiful voice and inspirational message about mental health with others.”
Claudia Has a History of Musicality
In addition, Kellyanne spoke about her daughter’s musical talent that has been on display since she began singing and playing music as a child. Her mother joked that she was born singing, sort of.
“Actually, screaming, but it had a certain sweet tone to it,” Kellyanne said. “She has been belting it out ever since.”
Kellyanne says that Claudia has taken music very seriously from a young age. Her daughter even tried to fire her first piano teacher as a 5-year-old. However, she says Claudia is much more collaborative these days.
“Claudia tried to ‘fire’ her first piano teacher when she was 5 years old. An inexplicable and embarrassing episode that became my late father’s favorite story,” Kellyanne recalled. “She is much more collaborative now, even as she will sit at the piano for hours teaching herself songs and lyrics by sound and allowing mom to introduce her to the ‘oldies’ from the ’70s and ’80s.”
American Idol Host Squashes Preferential Treatment Rumors
On Wednesday, TMZ spoke to “American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest while in New York City. They asked if Claudia received preferential treatment in landing her audition because of her family name and 1.4 million TikTok followers.
Seacrest said “that’s not the case,” at least to his knowledge it isn’t. The host said Claudia will advance in the singing competition on merit, nothing else. Yet, he did admit there is plenty to talk to her about because of her family’s ties to President Donald Trump.
Her mother famously worked for the president before stepping away from her role in August. In contrast, her father is a well-known “never-Trump” Republican who endorsed Joe Biden for president.
Seacrest also added that Claudia’s dad accompanied her at the recent audition. Supposedly, Claudia told Seacrest that her father has been a great coach leading up to her audition, as well.
