It’s an onscreen memory that Russell will never forget. However, he says that it was his offscreen moments with Elvis that were most notable. Russell said that, between takes, the two would pass a football together.

Ten years after kicking Elvis in the shin, Kurt Russell depicted Elvis in the film, Elvis. At the time of filming, Russell was the same age that Elvis was when he filmed his scene with a young Russell. Russell reflected on the serendipity of the timing during his interview with Manning.

“There I was, 10 years later when I was 27 years old, playing Elvis Presley,” said Russell. “He was someone who made a big impression on a 10-year-old kid,” he said.

The made for television film was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture Made for Television. Additionally, the film received three Primetime Emmy Award nominations including Outstanding Lead Actor for Russell.
