The report states that King wrote this new will by hand on Oct. 17, 2019. He had filed for divorce from Shawn Southwick King two months prior.
According to TMZ, his handwritten will states: “This is my Last Will & Testament. It should replace all previous writings.” King also went on to say that when he died he wanted 100 percent of his money to go to his children equally.
When Larry King wrote that will in 2019, he had five living children – Andy, Chaia, Larry Jr., Chance, and Cannon. Sadly, according to TMZ, Andy died of a heart attack in July 2020. Chaia died in August 2020. She had just received news that she had lung cancer.
With two of his adult children having died after Larry King penned a new will in October 2019, what his living children will receive from his estate is unknown. According to TMZ, Larry Jr. has filed legal documents requesting that he be made administrator of his estate. He cites the fact that his father was in the process of divorcing Shawn Southwick King when he died.
TMZ is also reporting that Larry King’s estate is estimated to be worth $2 million, but other assets could exist.
Larry King Dies at Age 87
Larry King died at the age of 87 on Jan. 23, 2021, in Los Angeles, California. The television host had just survived a battle with COVID-19 in the weeks prior to his passing. His battle with the coronavirus was one of many health scares he had survived in recent years.
In November 2020, he had heart problems caused by a lack of blood flow. In fact, he spent his 87th birthday in the hospital. Before that, in March 2019, Larry King had a stroke that put him in a coma. Medical professionals were worried that he wouldn’t recover, but he fought his way back.
“I had what they call a slight stroke in March. Everything is back to normal, except for my left foot. I can’t walk on my left foot, so I’m walking with a walker,” King said to Page Six in November 2019. “It’s making me feel old.”
“It was really touch-and-go,” he added. “I had a new stent put on the heart. It’s been amazing; everyone tells me they can’t believe I made it through.”
Sadly, in the days before his death in January 2021, Larry King was struggling, according to an interview Shawn gave to Entertainment Tonight.
“Well, he was finally ready to go, I will tell you that. You know, he never wanted to go but his sweet little body was just, it had just been hit so many times with so many things and once we heard the word COVID, all of our hearts just sunk,” Shawn said. “But he beat it, you know, he beat it, but it did take its toll and then the unrelated infection finally is what took him, but boy, he was not gonna go down easily.”
