Last Man Standing star Kaitlyn Dever may be exploring the Amafali Coast, but she still took the time to honor her dog Banjo on national dog day.
“#nationaldogday #banjo,” she wrote alongside a picture her fluffy, white pooch.
It seems Dever has been taking a break to travel after Fox canceled her show, Last Man Standing, this past May. Aside from her current trip to Italy, she recently posted pics from the American West and Disneyland.
Last Man Standing, which also starred Tim Allen, made waves when it was canceled by ABC in 2017 and then immediately picked up by Fox in 2018. The show ran for nine seasons total.
ABC held the series for six seasons before dropping it. And ABC didn’t initially give a reason when they decided not to renew it for a seventh season. Some people believed that the network nixed the show because of its conservative-leaning storylines.
However, ABC’s entertainment president Channing Dungey laid those rumors to rest when she stated that Last Man Standing was canceled for business and scheduling reasons. Dungey further said that choosing to cancel the show was “challenging” for her because it was a steady performer.
Last Man Standing Avoided Current Events For Final Season
Despite its cancellation by ABC, Last Man Standing “stood” for another three years on FOX. And although the series made itself famous for not shying away from hot topics in earlier seasons, showrunner Kevin Abbott said they avoided current events for the ninth and final season. Instead, they moved the cast into the future and skipped over our current dilemmas altogether.
In an interview with Cinemablend, Abbott said he didn’t want the show to be stuck in this generation.
“I don’t want a show that says, oh, that joke only works if you knew what was happening in this particular political moment which, by the time you see this again, you’ll be going, ‘What was that?'” he commented. “You know, it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me to do jokes that that are only good the one time you tell them.”
Abbot also mentioned that the Murphy Brown reboot focused on current and political events. And that series ended after only 13 episodes. He also said he noticed a lot of shows that rely on those things often suffer the same fate.
“[Murphy Brown] was so topical-heavy, so ripped from today’s headlines, and jokes were all about that,” he said.
The final episode of Last Man Standing aired on May 20th. Viewers can catch the whole series on Hulu.
