‘Last Man Standing’: Watch Sneak Peak of Mike Baxter Meeting Another Tim Allen Character, Tim Taylor

Tim Allen will soon be seeing double in the second episode of “Last Man Standing” tonight (Jan. 7). The show will crossover with Allen’s last foray into sitcoms “Home Improvement.”

Allen will reprise his character of Tim Taylor from the popular 1990s sitcom. The crossover will see Allen playing opposite himself as his “Last Man Standing” character Mike Baxter comes face to face with his doppelganger.

This isn’t the first time that the show has referenced Allen’s previous venture. “Home Improvement” has been the source of jokes in previous seasons. For instance, Baxter’s wife chides him during one episode, “you and your home improvement.”

Additionally, the show made various references to the show when Allen’s “Home Improvement” son Jonathan Taylor Thomas made multiple guest appearances on the show. But this will be the first time the show has referenced its predecessor so blatantly. Allen will put on the tool belt again when worlds collide in “Dual Time.”

According to the synopsis, the Baxters hire Taylor for his handyman prowess. But they soon realize the striking similarity he has to Mike Baxter. While their physical appearances may look similar, the two are very different characters. And Baxter appeared slightly annoyed by the handyman.

Tim Allen Says Goodbye to ‘Last Man Standing’

“Last Man Standing” premiered its final season on Jan. 3. Allen is saying goodbye to the Baxter family for the second time in so many years. But this time, there’s a ring of finality to the show ending. After ABC canceled the show in its sixth season, Fox revived the series for three more seasons.

Now, the Baxters and Allen are bringing the show to an end on their own terms. The actor has crafted an emotional farewell to his fellow actors and the characters they played. He already misses his time on the set.

“I’ve been one lucky dude to have been part of ‘Last Man Standing.’ I so appreciate the incredible support from our fans over this near-decade of work,” Allen said in a statement. “As we approach the ninth season, I just admire and feel grateful for all the hard work our wonderful cast and crew have done. We had all considered to end the show after last season. But together with Fox, we decided to add a year so we could produce a full season to create the gentle and fun goodbye. I’m looking forward to a memorable and hilarious final season.”

But who knows, if Allen can resurrect Taylor years later, maybe audiences will see Mike Baxter again one day.
