On Friday (December 3rd), Law & Order: Organized Crime star Chris Meloni hit up his Instagram account with some snapshots of him reuniting with some of his Oz castmates.

“Without Fontana; With Fontana,” the Law & Order: Organized Crime star captions the post. He also used various hashtags, including “He brings Chaos,” “He Brings Good times,” “He brings Love.”

Prior to joining the Law & Order universe, Meloni starred on the hit HBO series Oz as Chris Keller. The show followed the daily activities of an unusual prison facility and its criminal inhabitants. Meloni starred alongside J.K. Simmons, Ernie Hudson, Lee Tergesen, Dean Winters, and Rita Moreno in the series. Oz ran for six seasons, starting in July 1997, and had 56 episodes. The show ended in February 2003.

Chris Meloni Shared Details About His Roles on ‘Oz’ and ‘Law & Order: SVU’

During a March 2016 interview, Chris Meloni spoke about juggling his roles on Oz and Law & Order: SVU. “I knew I was the luckiest actor in New York City. To be a working actor in New York City is good enough. To have a steady gig in New York City is a dream come true and to have two, which are awesome shows – forget about it.”

However, the Law & Order star also admitted that it wasn’t easy playing two very different characters on opposite sides of the law within a 24 hour period. He would work on the set of Oz from six in the morning until noon. He would then finish his day working on the SVU set.

After Oz came to an end, Meloni continued to star on Law & Order: SVU until 2011. He revealed to Men’s Health in August 2021 why he departed from SVU.  He revealed to the media outlet that he actually tried to negotiate the number of episodes he was in, but negotiations didn’t work out.

“My thought was: instead of 22 episodes, bring me back for nine episodes,” the Law & Order star recalled. “Or bring me back for 18 episodes. They literally came back to me on a Thursday night and said, ‘This is the deal. We want the answer by tomorrow. It’s our way or no way.”

The Law & Order castmate went on to reveal his response. “I don’t want f— around with you guys. This is what I want. If you can’t do it, that’s fine. Let’s figure out my exit.”

Mariska Hargitary Shared Her Reaction to Chris Meloni’s Departure from ‘Law & Order: SVU’

During a recent interview with People, Mariska Hargitay opened up about her reaction to Chris Meloni leaving Law & Order: SVU. “I was just so sad. Because we started this thing and built it together. And we went through so many milestones and spent so much together and understand so many things that nobody else could understand.”

Meloni then shared that Hargitay was left in the “familiarity” of what the castmates were. “And I’m sure there were echoes, constant reminders, everywhere. But for me, it was about how things fell out. And the I’ll use is that it was inelegant.”
