‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’: Dylan McDermott Looks ‘Prepared’ in New Teaser

The new Law & Order: Organized Crime story arc still is more than a week away. And we Outsiders are scrutinizing every tease.

Here’s one from Warren Leight, a showrunner for Law & Order: SVU. It’s a photograph showing Dylan McDermott’s Richard Wheatley with Raul Esparza’s Barba.

Leight captioned the photo: “The defense looks prepared for December 9th. And dapper.” (We agree)

Leight then followed that Monday tweet with this one: “And I’m not sure why, but yes, it is indeed a SAG-Aftra rule that any male stars returning to SVU MUST have a beard in #Season 23.”

It’ll Be a Hot Night for Crossovers for SVU and Law & Order: Organized Crime

Set an alert on your calendar cause you don’t want to miss Dec. 9. It’s going to be a crossover with two hours of intense drama and two wild hours of Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni. We’ll first see McDermott make his return in Law & Order: SVU. The episode is appropriately called People Vs Richard Wheatley. That’s when the prosecution hopes to make its case against Wheatley, who is accused of killing Elliot Stabler’s wife, Kathy, using a car bomb. This incident unfolded in the pilot episode of Law & Order: Organized Crime, April 1.

Then, the crossover Dec. 9 continues with the Law & Order: Organized Crime episode entitled The Christmas Episode. And ignore the title. It’s probably anti-festive. It’ll offer more problems for Elliot and his family. According to the NBC synopsis: “When Eli goes missing, Stabler asks Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and the task force to help him find his son. Wheatley considers his future.” As Law & Order: Organized Crime fans are well aware, Eli is Elliot Stabler’s son. In the first few episodes of season two, Eli got involved with drugs as his dad went undercover to bust up the Albanian mob.

Ilene Chaiken, the Law & Order: Organized Crime showrunner, offered even more details about the holiday episode. Be prepared for anxiety.

“It will be a very Law & Order Christmas,” Chaiken told TV Line. “I’ll just say: I hope we don’t ruin Christmas for you for all time.”

Barba Once Was ADA on Law & Order: SVU

Now, getting back to the photo Leight tweeted. McDermott’s Wheatley is in the snap. And so is Rafael Barba, who is returning to SVU. The character used to be the assistant district attorney assigned to the sex crimes unit. This will be the 118th SVU episode for Esparza’s Barba. However, Barba resigned as an ADA. He’s now a defense attorney. And he’s representing Wheatley.

Hargitay’s character doesn’t like Barba’s new client. Last week, an NBC promo teased “Benson finds herself at odds with a friend when Barba agrees to take the case.” Barba has been a part of SVU since 2012, the year after Meloni left the series.

Now, Meloni is back as the star of Law & Order: Organized Crime. He spent most of season two as his undercover identity Eddie Wagner, who worked in the Kosta Organization. Now, he gets to be Stabler, full time, going up against the dapper dudes, Wheatley and Barba.
