‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’ Reveals First Photos of Ellen Burstyn’s Return as Elliot Stabler’s Mom

We’re all desperately waiting for the fall TV season to grace us with its presence very soon.

It marks the return of popular shows of all kinds as they make a return with an all-new season. One of which is “Law & Order: Organized Crime.” The “Law & Order” spinoff had its first season in the spring.

Now, the highly successful rookie show is going into its second season and will start on Thursday, September 23 at 10/9 p.m. CT on NBC. It will follow “Law & Order: SVU,” which has had several crossover episodes with already and more to come. Fans have adored getting to see Christopher Meloni reunite with other iconic characters from his past as Elliot Stabler.

That specifically included his emotional reunion with Captain Oliva Benson. He spent years with her over on “Law & Order: SVU.” Now, the show is teasing us with the return of another beyond iconic character.

‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’ Special Guest Star

Oscar-winning actor Ellen Burstyn is going to make her “Law & Order: Organized Crime” debut this season. TV Line shared exclusive photos of her returning as Bernadette “Bernie” Stabler, the mother of Elliot Stabler. She first played her character in season 10 of “Law & Order: SVU.”

At the time, her granddaughter, Kathleen, was arrested. As it turns out, she is nowhere near a perfect motherly figure and she may bring along some drama with her to the series. We found out that Bernie is actually bipolar and in the past, she nearly killed Elliot when he was just a young boy.

Make sure to tune into the September 30 episode to catch what goes on with Bernie. It’s going to be a two-part event for the beginning of season two of “Organized Crime.” While you’re now expecting Bernie’s visit on the screen, Elliot is not at all expecting her when she arrives.

In the photos released, no one looks exactly thrilled that Bernie has arrived. That includes Bernie as well. It’s probably got to do with some less-than-pleasant family-related news.

Ellen Burstyn and other Recurring Guest

Whatever it is, we know that Ellen Burstyn sure knows how to deliver an absolutely stellar performance. She got a Guest Actress Emmy for her “SVU” performance. Maybe she can even repeat that with “Organized Crime” this time. She’s also appeared on “House of Cards,” “Louie,” “Big Love,” “Political Animals,” and “The Ellen Burstyn Show.” She even landed a major role in the upcoming Showtime series, “The First Lady,” in which she will portray Sara Delano Roosevelt.

It seems like it’s going to be an interesting start for “Law & Order: Organized Crime.”

The infamous villain from season one, Richard Wheatley, who is played by Dylan McDermott, is going to return. He was initially going to only appear in season one according to his contract. However, fans and the show’s writers loved him so much that he was asked to come back.

He is going to appear in eight episodes, and, according to Deadline, is getting one of the most lucrative guest star deals on all of network TV.
