Actor Chris Meloni channeled his inner Tom Selleck by growing a mustache that could almost compare to Selleck’s famous ‘stache. The Law & Order: Organized Crime star took to Twitter to see how similar his mustache to Sellecks.

Meloni plays the impassioned, hotblooded, and forever faithful Elliot Stabler from Law & Order: SVU.  The star recently returned to the small-screen reprising his role as Elliot Stabler on Law & Order: Organized Crime.

The Law & Order star posed for the Twitterverse donning with a serious look to match the serious mustache. In the tweet, Meloni asked his followers if they thought he and the mustached mega-star had much in common.

“Whacha think….Tom Selleck????” Meloni asked his followers in the post from 2013.

Twitter responded to the photo of the typically bare-face actor sporting a brand-new look noting that while Selleck’s ‘stache remains the ultimate one, they didn’t think Christopher Meloni’s mustache was too bad.

Tom Selleck’s Famous Mustache Was a Hit Long Before Chris Meloni

Tom Selleck is known for having one of the best, and most iconic, mustaches in Hollywood. Best known for his roles on the hit CBS series Blue Bloods as well a CBS’s Magnum PI, Selleck’s iconic mustache has long been a source of envy.

Selleck, who plays Reagan family patriarch and NYPD Police Commissioner on Blue Bloods first found fame as the charming detective, Thomas Magnum in Magnum PI.

While Selleck has found a lot of variety in his roles between Magnum PI and Blue Bloods, the 76-year-old actor seems to have always been sporting the recognizable ‘stache. In fact, the mustache itself has seemed to gain fame over the years.

“We are not technically allowed to look at the mustache,” joked Selleck’s Blue Bloods costar, Donnie Wahlberg in a recent interview with Steven Colbert.

Law & Order: Organized Crime star Christopher Meloni One of Small Screens Favorite Leading Men

Selleck may have decades establishing himself as a small-screen drama leading man; but Meloni has held his own since his character, Elliot Stabler hit the small screen in 1999.

A dedicated family man, Elliot Stabler was a partner to Olivia Benson for much of Law & Order: SVU’s first 12 seasons. Fiercely loyal, Stabler is sometimes known for crossing the line between seeking justice and looking for revenge.

While their small-screen characters are somewhat similar, Meloni’s Stabler rarely sports facial hair aside from the occasional “five o’clock shadow.”

Since the Tweet, Meloni returned to his usual clean-shaven look. In 2020, however, the actor did sport a full-face beard which he referred to as his “quarantine beard.”
