Law & Order: Organized Crime star Dylan McDermott paid tribute to Ed Asner.
On Sunday, August 29, McDermott shared a sweet photo of him on the red carpet with Asner.
“Rest In Peace Ed. You were the very best,” he captioned the photo alongside a heart emoji.
The actors both attended the Annual Ed Asner and Friends Poker Tournament which benefits Autism Speaks.
Asner is survived by his children: Matthew, Liza, Kate, and Charles.
Firstly, Asner is best known for his role of Lou Grant on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and its spinoff Lou Grant. Secondly, younger fans will recognize the voice of Carl Fredrickson in Disney and Pixar’s UP! or in Elf as Santa Clause. Thirdly, he was also recently featured on Grace & Frankie and Cobra Kai.
Finally, Ed Asner is the most awarded male actor in Emmy history with seven awards. Five of those awards for playing the role of Lou. In 2001, he was honored with the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award.
Additionally, his family announced his passing via his Twitter account. He was 91.
“We are sorry to say that our beloved patriarch passed away this morning peacefully. Words cannot express the sadness we feel. With a kiss on your head- Goodnight dad. We love you,” the statement read.
‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’ Season 2 Details
Fans will recall that we left Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 1 with Richard Wheatley in police custody. He was waiting for his trial for the murder of Elliot Stabler’s wife, Kathy. Unfortunately, his son put a hit out on him but he was saved. The organized crime boss used a cell phone to order a hit on his wife, Angela.
Firstly, McDermott was signed on to Season 1 as a series regular. His character was scheduled to just appear in the first season. Fans obviously fell in love with the villain and he signed on as a recurring character for Season 2. He is rumored to be appearing in eight of the 24 episodes.
Furthermore, Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 2 will feature three different arcs: The Godfather, American Gangster, and Scarface. In addition, each arc will be across eight episodes with different adversaries.
Ron Cephas Jones and Vinnie Jones have joined the cast of the show. Ron Cephas Jones will be portraying Congressman Leon Kilbride. His character has been described as a “born politician who fosters connections and always plays his cards right.” Vinnie Jones will be playing Albi Briscu. Briscu has been described as “an Eastern European gangster who is the last remaining member of the organization from the old country.”
For SVU fans, Ellen Burstyn, who plays Elliot’s mother, Bernadette Stabler, will be returning. Her appearance will not be during the premiere episode but later in the season.
Law & Order: Organized Crime will premiere on NBC on Thursday, September 23 at 10 PM ET.
