Law & Order: SVU actor Aidan Quinn is coming back to the series for the 500th episode even though he’s landed a major role as Teddy Roosevelt on an HBO series. Quinn played a minor role on Law & Order: SVU, but when he returns, he’ll play a different role: Burton Lowe, someone major from Olivia Benson’s past.

The 500th episode will be focused on Olivia Benson, the Special Victims Unit, and her complicated backstory. Fans will learn major information about what made Benson who she is. Aidan Quinn is a part of telling that story.

His first role on Law & Order: SVU was in a 2007 episode called Savant. He played Ben Nicholson. He’s the father of the only witness to a crime. But that witness is a young child with a mental disability. The role in the upcoming 500th episode is far more mysterious.

However, Quinn is taking a moment off from a major role to come back to Law & Order: SVU, so it may be pretty major.

Quinn Has Wonderful Things to Say About Working with ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Star Mariska Hargitay

Perhaps one of the reasons Quinn decided to return to Law & Order: SVU was the opportunity to work with Mariska Hargitay again. It seems like he got to share a lot of scenes with her.

“I play an old friend of Olivia’s who comes back with a cold case he need help from her on, and that rekindles some of the things from our relationship when we were younger,” he told the New York Post. “Mariska was great; we had some really intense scenes together and she just hits it out of the park.

“There were a couple of times where I thought she had cut the scene and then realized, ‘Oh god, no, that’s her line.’ She was so fresh and real. It literally took my breath away,” he continued.

Fans are looking forward to the focus the episode will have on Olivia Benson and her backstory. The episode will contain flashbacks, some of which may contain Quinn. It’ll be interesting to figure out the nature of Olivia and Burton’s relationship as the drama unfolds.

You can catch Quinn along with Mariska Hargitay and a ton of returning actors on Thursday, October 21st at 9/8 Central for the special 500th episode.

The Actor Plays Teddy Roosevelt for an HBO Series

Since his small role on Law & Order: SVU, Quinn has landed some much bigger gigs. But his current gig as Teddy Roosevelt on a current HBO mini-series is definitely intriguing. Quinn plays the president on an expedition to Brazil in 1914 with explorer Candido Rondon.

The series is called “O Hóspede Americano” or “The American Guest.” Quinn is also known for his work on Elementary, Spiked, and Prime Suspect.
