SVU Celebrated Milestone Episode Earlier This Month

Here’s betting Law & Order: SVU is popping a lot of champagne this month. The series celebrated its 500th episode last Thursday (Oct. 21).

Hargitay, in interviews leading up to No. 500, said she was too anxious to watch it before it finally played on NBC.

“They sent me the link so many times and I was actually too nervous to watch it,” the beloved Law & Order: SVU star said on Live with Kelly and Ryan.

“Obviously, I’ve been doing this show for so long and Olivia Benson is in me, but I think that the idea of the 500th episode was so much pressure or something on me. And I was so nervous coming to work this day.”

The 500th episode featured a compelling storyline. Olivia Benson and the rest of the unit investigated a 25-year-old case of a high school boy who was sent to prison for raping and murdering his girlfriend. Although the boy confessed, he recanted. Turns out, the high school tennis coach killed the girl. The boy, who now is middle-aged, was cleared and released from prison.

The twist was who represented the boy. Former SVU detective Nick Amaro (Danny Pino) brought the case to Benson’s attention. And the boy’s champion was true crime writer/podcaster Burton Lowe (Aidan Quinn). He also happened to be Benson’s first love. She dated him when she was 16 and he was 21.

Benson found out that her old boyfriend likely was a predator who took advantage of much younger women.

The next new episode of Law & Order: SVU airs Nov. 4. It’s called “They’d Already Disappeared.”
