Since the hit crossover “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” and “Law and Order: Organized Crime” episodes last spring, hardcore “Law and Order” fans have been speculating on the potentially budding romance between Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) and Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay.)
However, dedicated fans of the police procedural have also had their eyes on another “would-be” couple for quite some time.
When Sonny Carisi (Peter Scanavino) joined the “Special Victims Unit” to replace Detective Nick Amaro (Danny Pino) in season sixteen, he and detective Amanda Rollins (Kellie Giddish) hit it off immediately.
The idea of the duo becoming a couple has had a strong fan backing since Carisi first appeared on the show. For years, the two have shared a bond that can easily surpass the friendship level. However, over the years, there have always been bumps in the road towards a potential Carisi-Rollins connection. And, the events leading up to last season’s end aren’t any different.
Will a Budding “Law and Order” Romance Finally Bloom?
A recent Express article explored this relationship, as well as discussed the possibility that a past romance could dampen any chances for the two to get together. At least for now.
“Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” fans have always been drawn to the closeness that Rollins and Carisi share. When Rollins discovered she was pregnant with her second child, Carisi was the first person she came to for support.
The outlet pointed out that Carisi’s relationship with Rollins’ two daughters Jesse and Billie has always been close. Drawing the two characters that much closer together.
Season twenty-two ended with a moment many fans have been waiting for – a momentous smooch between the two “Law and Order” characters. Fans were elated the two have finally made that leap. However, many believe there will soon be trouble in the air for the potential romance.
Fans Speak Out About Rollins and Carisi
One fan theory floating around on Reddit suggests that one of Carisi’s past romances may reemerge. Ultimately creating issues after the big kiss. Carisi’s ex-fling Nicole (Suzette Gunn) is the wild-card according to this theory. Rollins’s past relationship with former partner Amaro was another fly-in-the-ointment according to some other fans.
“Carisi pined for her for years and it seems like such terrible writing to have him get together with Nicole and then completely disregard her the moment Rollins shows interest,” one Reddit fan wrote about the “Law and Order” duo. “It seems out of Carisi’s character to kiss another woman while still technically in a relationship.”
Whatever the case, longtime “Law and Order” fans know that these romances are not always easy. It is certain that the kiss is only the beginning of the storyline as the hit series enters its twenty-third season.
