Law & Order: SVU episode 500 is airing tomorrow, and Amaro actor Danny Pino had no trouble returning to the role. The actor played Amaro, a now-former detective that left the precinct six years ago. Fans are thrilled that he’s coming back to the series, and it looks like Pino fits right in.

Not only does he find that the show and the atmosphere on set hasn’t changed much since he’s been on, but he actually had no trouble returning to the role after so much time. In a recent interview with TV Line, the actor explained what it was like.

When asked what it was like to slip back into the role, the former Law & Order: SVU actor said returning to a familiar environment helped him.

“It hits pretty quickly. I mean, I happened to have the same dressing room that I had right before I left, and so that dropped me in pretty quickly. The physicality of the space is also very similar. I mean, the set has changed a little bit, but the interrogation rooms are still the interrogation rooms… Benson’s office is still there, and the squad room is still relatively the same,” he told the publication. “It felt very familiar.”

It’s not just a lot of his fellow actors that he recognizes. He also was excited to see some of the people who worked behind the camera that are still there.

Danny Pino Was Excited to Reunite With the ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Crew

“A lot of the crew —this incredibly stalwart, hardworking, talented crew — is still the same… You get so caught up in trying to catch up on how people are doing and what they’ve been through, especially through COVID, that there’s an immediate connection to it all,” he said.

According to TV Line, Pino will have plenty to do in the special episode. Amaro will bring a figure from Benson’s past back into her life. That person is likely Burton Lowe, played by Aidan Quinn. Fans are excited to see what the cast has in store for this major event.

It looks like the episode will focus a lot on Olivia and her past. That makes sense; Mariska Hargitay has been at the forefront of the show since its premiere in 1999. Olivia Benson is now the character everyone associates with the series especially since Stabler left over a decade ago.

Now, by the way, Elliot Stabler actor Chris Meloni has his own show, Law & Order: Organized Crime, which frequently crosses over with SVU. Hopefully, the 500th episode will be one of those times. Lots of fans really want to see stabler meet Amaro, who was Olivia’s partner after he retired.

You can catch the 500th episode of Law & Order: SVU tomorrow night at 9/8 central on NBC.
