As Law & Order: SVU introduces old cast members back into the show, how would you feel to see detective Monique Jeffries back with the department? One of the show’s fans took to Reddit over the weekend to try and answer that very question.
For those out there who may not know, detective Monique Jeffries (played by Michelle Hurd) was a regular character during the first season of Law & Order: SVU (Special Victims Unit). She was considered a tough, street-wise detective with the Special Victims Unit in New York City. For a time, she was even the partner of John Munch (Richard Belzer). However, after she went through a near-death experience, she is relieved of her post when she admits to having sex with a suspect in a previous case.
A user on Reddit who goes by u/fuzzypipe39 asked fellow fans of the crime show if they would like to see Jeffries make a return.
“I didn’t rewatch the seasons with her, genuinely even forgot she existed on the show. And forgot how she exited ( I know the actress and Belzer (Munch) had their own beef allegedly). I’d maybe like to see her make a small comeback,” The original post states. “A small role, a phone call to assist some case, through connection to whichever department she went back to. Just something since they’re bringing back some old members (like Stabler and Warren was in a few episodes.”
‘Law & Order: SVU’ Fans Respond
It’s hard to get anything past a Law & Order: SVU fan. There’s no question about that. And many of them have their own critical opinions of the show and the character of Detective Jeffries.
“Granted, I’m only about halfway through my first season rewatch, but honestly — I don’t think she adds that much as a character,” one fan commented. “I do think it’s sh*tty the way in which she got written out, for sure, but at least in my rewatch, I’m remembering why I forgot about her, if that makes sense.”
However, another fan chimed in with a different point of view. They would like to see Michelle Hurd’s character make a comeback.
“I actually like Jeffries and wished she’d come back,” another fan wrote. “The way they handled her character sucked a**. Personally, I understand why people say she’s dull and didn’t add much to the show, however, I feel like that’s unfair to say considering we haven’t seen much of her at all. As I’ve said before, they handled her character badly. If the writers spent more time on her character I think she would have been someone we would all love. Sadly, it didn’t end this way.”
