A new episode of Law & Order: SVU has Olivia Benson’s future with the department in question, due to her injury. She spoke with her doctor who explained to her she wouldn’t be chasing anyone across rooftops any time soon.
When it comes to Benson and the SVU, they go together like a puzzle piece. However, the doctor is thinking it might be time for her to “move on” from law enforcement. That is something that the Captain is NOT going to consider. And neither are fans.
Some fans did not take well to the suggestion. By the look on Benson’s face, you can tell that it is a non-starter. There is no way she would retire at a time like this. Her former partner and dear friend, Elliot Stabler is now undercover with the Organized Crime Unit. She has a lot still left in her.
Fans are not going to entertain the idea either, and they have spoken out very vocally on Twitter.
After two decades of taking on the cities most sensitive crimes, Olivia Benson IS the SVU department. I have a feeling the pressures of retirement are going to come up more in this season. However, the stubbornness and determination of Benson will be hard to beat.
Viewers are sounding off online as we speak about the conversation that is quickly becoming infamous among the fandom.
Fans Say ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Can’t Retire Olivia Benson
Olivia Benson is one of the hardest-working characters in all of television. Mariska Hargitay’s work on Law & Order: SVU is what keeps fans coming back for more each year. Also, without a conclusion to the Benson/Stabler relationship, viewers could riot if the Captain was retired early.
One Twitter user, Corey Kendall, said, “‘Retirement’ for Captain Benson would be working 5 nights a week instead of 7. She’s not going anywhere.”
Another user thought that others were missing the meaning behind the moment. Simplicity is Best said, “If you didn’t understand, Live said she is always for the victims you can take her badge now!!!”
Throughout the Law & Order: SVU fan community, it seemed that the overall consensus was that a Benson retirement is a no-no. Really, there were very few replies that thought retirement made sense.
Britt Yvonne said, “How dare this doctor suggest Olivia Benson retire. He has some nerve.”
That doctor didn’t make any friends tonight. Fans are so against the idea of Benson retiring. If the show is on, viewers expect to see her out there and busting criminals. For now, Olivia Benson remains committed to the department. Law & Order: SVU is going to be continuing the drama throughout the fall. Don’t forget to tune into Organized Crime and see what Stabler is up to.
