There’s one character that Law & Order: SVU fans really want to get more recognition for. In a recent Reddit thread, fans discussed why they find this character so incredible.

In the thread called “most unappreciated character,” a Law & Order: SVU fan made their case for who fans need to talk about more.

“You often hear people cite Stabler, Olivia, Ice-T, or Munch as the best detectives on the show. But few people mention Cragen, although he was equally as good. Cragen consistently conveyed a sense of leadership, credibility, maturity that really helped establish the show. He deserves more commendations,The Law & Order: SVU fan wrote.

Cragen, played by Dan Florek, was an absolute staple of Law & Order: SVU before Florek left the show after season 16. He was the “boss” character and deeply cared about the team.

Other fans agreed and chimed in with their favorite Cragen moments.

“Cragen was awesome. I really liked the arc where he went undercover to catch a prostitution/sex trafficking ring. At the end of the episode, Cragen admits to Olivia that from the experience, that he wishes he had more companionship in his life,” one fan wrote.

“Agreed. Cragen was awesome and SVU couldn’t have asked for a better leader,” another fan wrote.

Some fans even think that Benson, who now has his job, should take more of a “Cragen” like approach and not spend as much time in the field, but she’s Beson so… that’s not likely.

Cragen Made in an Appearance in a Very Special ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Episode

Fans have really missed Cragen, so people were thrilled when he appeared for the 500th episode of Law & Order: SVU, even if it was just for a scene on a facetime call. In the scene, Olivia facetimes Cragen about a case, but he makes it very clear how proud he is of her for where she is now.

The 500th episode featured a ton of old characters, but Cragen’s appearance was one that fans really cherished. His presence with Olivia was almost that of a father figure, so it was incredibly emotional when he expressed how proud he was of her.

But the show has managed to continue on without Cragen and is now in its record-breaking 23rd season. It’s currently on hiatus, but it’ll come back on Thursday, December 9th.

Following that is a crossover episode with Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: Organized Crime that’ll see Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler working together once more. Not to mention, that episode is also going to be a Christmas special. Fans who want to see Benson and Stabler get together are really looking forward to that one.

The show has definitely come far since its early days, but its nice to see fans appreciate the characters that have come and gone over the decades.
