Yes, that’s Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay on the cover of Glamour Magazine.
Why wouldn’t Hargitay, the 57-year-old who just finished her 500th episode on the history-making Law & Order: SVU be considered for such a glorious honor. Glamour included Hargitay as one of it’s women of the year.
Hargitay posted a photo of the cover on her Instagram page, Tuesday. She’s wearing a beautiful, jewel-tone colored, floor-length dress. Her hair is swept back into a messy bun. The photo catches her moving forward. And to give it that quirky authenticity, Hargitay is bare-footed. Her photo is both glamorous and comfortable.
The Law & Order: SVU mainstay captioned the photo: “Deepest thanks to Glamour Magazine for this honor. I’m grateful and inspired to walk out into the world in the company of such extraordinary women.”
The other honorees included Megan Thee Stallion, Amanda Gorman and Katalin Kariko and the groups Heart of Dinner and Democracy’s Defenders.
Law & Order: SVU Star Said She Learned From Early Age How to Keep Going In Life
Hargitay said in the Glamour interview that she learned to how to “keep going” in life when she was a little girl. Her mother, actress Jayne Mansfield, died in a car wreck when Hargitay was 3. She was in the back seat.
“I think I learned about crisis very young,” the Law & Order: SVU star told Glamour. “And I learned very young that shit happens and there’s no guarantees, and we keep going. And then we transform it. That’s been kind of my superpower, and the gift of having trauma early in life. I’ve spent the last 50—how old am I?—57, so 54 years sort of trying to figure out what happened and why, and what am I supposed to do with it?”
Hargitay and the rest of the Law & Order: SVU crew create a new episode every eight days. She’s lived most of her entire adult life on the New York set. She met her husband, Peter Hermann, on the show. They married in 2004 and now have three children.
Hargitay Mixed Up Meloni with Mad Men Star
She also has an excellent relationship with Christopher Meloni, her former SVU co-star who now is the lead in Law & Order: Organized Crime. And when they first met — on his audition for the show — she confused him with someone else. She thought he was Mad Men star John Slattery. Meloni corrected her the first time she got his name wrong.
Now, after all these years on set, she describes herself as the mom on of Law & Order: SVU. Meloni is the dad. “He was the angry father that will fix it at all costs,” Hargitay said.
“He’s a bull,” Hargitay said of her former co-star. “He’s intellectual, he’s clear, he’s focused, he’s funny. (And) he’s a ballbuster.
“And to see him back stronger, faster—he’s like the bionic man,” she said. “He’s like this 60-year-old superhero who is even more dedicated, more badass, more pure, stronger, more focused. He’s just more of everything that he was.”
Of course, Hargitay is the superhero, too. Check out a new Law & Order: SVU episode this Thursday. Writers called They’d Already Disappeared.
